Description:
Skillsoft is looking for a detail-oriented and customer-focused Payroll Associate to support payroll processing, employee payroll data validation, tax account management, and employee inquiry resolution. This entry-level opportunity is suitable for an early-career payroll professional who wants to develop expertise in payroll operations, compliance, and process improvement.
The Payroll Associate will work closely with Payroll, Human Resources, Finance teams, and external payroll providers to ensure employees are paid accurately and on time. The role will also support payroll documentation, audit preparation, and continuous improvement initiatives.
This position provides an opportunity to build payroll knowledge while contributing to accurate, efficient, and reliable payroll processes within a global organization.
Key Responsibilities:
• Assist with routine payroll processing activities, including payroll inputs and report reviews.
• Validate payroll data for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with company policies and deadlines.
• Review payroll reports and identify discrepancies, missing information, or data issues.
• Support payroll reconciliations and maintain organized documentation for audits and reviews.
• Coordinate with Human Resources regarding new hires, terminations, compensation updates, and employee records.
• Assist with processing approved bonuses, commissions, overtime, and other variable pay items.
• Support payroll tax account management, including maintaining records and tracking updates.
• Coordinate with payroll vendors and tax authorities regarding payroll-related matters.
• Respond to employee payroll inquiries related to pay, deductions, taxes, direct deposits, and time reporting.
• Support quarterly, year-end, and compliance-related payroll activities.
• Maintain payroll procedures, checklists, and documentation to ensure audit readiness.
• Participate in payroll process improvement initiatives to improve accuracy and efficiency.
Requirements:
• 1–3 years of professional experience in payroll, finance, accounting, HR operations, or related administrative roles.
• High School Diploma required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, Human Resources, or related field preferred.
• Basic to intermediate Microsoft Excel skills with experience handling spreadsheets and reviewing data.
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
• Ability to handle confidential payroll and employee information professionally.
• Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with recurring deadlines.
• Ability to follow structured processes and escalate issues when required.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills with excellent attention to detail.
• Willingness to learn payroll systems, compliance processes, and audit documentation practices.
• Strong knowledge of:
• Payroll processing and employee data management.
• Payroll compliance and reconciliation procedures.
• HR operations and payroll technology systems.
Preferred Competencies:
• Experience with Workday, ADP, UKG, Ceridian, or similar payroll/HCM systems is an advantage.
• Customer-service mindset with professional handling of employee inquiries.
• Analytical ability to investigate and resolve payroll discrepancies.
• Interest in payroll compliance, process improvement, and payroll technology
