Operations Manager (International Supply Chain Management)

Role Overview

This is a hands-on operations leadership role based in Nairobi, responsible for steering day-to-day execution while also coordinating with suppliers, clients, shipping lines, transporters, and third-party logistics providers across multiple countries. You will be the operational anchor who turns complexity into clarity: structuring workflows, resolving issues in real time, and making sure the team has the tools, guidance, and accountability to deliver consistently. Your work directly underpins the company’s trading activities by ensuring that every shipment—whether container, bulk, or breakbulk—moves accurately, on time, and in full compliance with local and international rules.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and supervise the operational team day to day, allocating workload, monitoring performance, and ensuring coverage across all active tasks.
• Act as the primary escalation point for operational disruptions, using a structured, hands-on approach to resolve issues quickly and prevent recurrence.
• Partner with trading, treasury, and trade finance departments to design and implement end-to-end operational processes that support commercial objectives.
• Own the full shipment lifecycle: planning and executing container moves, trucking coordination, bulk and breakbulk operations, and all related documentation.
• Coordinate with international suppliers, overseas clients, shipping lines, and 3PL partners to ensure alignment on schedules, costs, and documentation requirements.
• Maintain accurate system records, oversee stock reconciliations, and ensure all operational data is updated for reliable reporting and process control.
• Monitor compliance with Kenyan regulations and international trade rules, updating procedures as requirements change.
• Train, coach, and develop team members, simplifying complex workflows so that everyone understands their role and executes with confidence.

Requirements & Qualifications

• 3–5 years of operations experience, with a proven record of supervising or managing a team; supply chain, logistics, or multi-commodity trading background is an advantage.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, comfortable influencing stakeholders across departments and geographies.
• Advanced capability with operational systems and IT tools; able to use data to improve efficiency, accuracy, and controls.
• Demonstrated experience in international logistics, including working with shipping lines, 3PLs, trucking providers, and cross-border suppliers or clients.
• Solid understanding of stock management, inventory reconciliations, and operational compliance frameworks.
• A structured, proactive problem-solver who can design clear processes and drive their adoption across teams.
• Highly organised, detail-oriented, and able to prioritise effectively in a fast-paced, multi-country environment.
• A strong sense of ownership; able to take accountability for outcomes, follow through on commitments, and maintain high standards under pressure.
