Role Overview
This role keeps the Nairobi office of a constitutional-law organisation running day after day by handling cleaning, hospitality, and basic administrative tasks. By ensuring workspaces are spotless, kitchens are stocked, and supplies are ordered on time, you enable lawyers, researchers, and programme staff to focus on advancing human rights and the rule of law. Day to day, you rotate between morning deep-cleaning, midday meeting support, and end-of-day waste management, all while serving as a welcoming point of contact for visitors.
Key Responsibilities
- Complete pre-start cleaning each morning: sweep and mop floors, dust furniture and equipment, and wipe down high-touch surfaces such as door handles and light switches.
- Maintain washrooms and common areas to a high hygiene standard, including restocking supplies and following a weekly cleaning roster.
- Prepare and serve tea, coffee, and light refreshments for staff and meeting guests, washing and storing utensils and cups immediately after use.
- Monitor kitchen and office consumables (e.g., detergent, sanitiser, coffee, tea) and notify the Operations Unit when stock runs low.
- Empty all waste bins daily, separate recyclables according to the organisation’s sustainability policy, and store cleaning equipment safely after each use.
- Perform monthly deep-cleaning exercises and schedule window-cleaning rounds, covering both interior panes and ground-floor exterior glass.
- Report any damage to furniture, fittings, or office equipment to the Operations Unit promptly, and help coordinate repair or replacement.
- Support light compound maintenance, including sweeping walkways and basic gardening tasks such as watering plants.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Diploma or certificate in Business Administration, Office Management, or a closely related field.
- At least three years of hands-on experience in a clerical, administrative, or office-support role that involved cleaning and hospitality duties.
- Ability to work independently without close supervision and to manage competing tasks under time pressure.
- Professional demeanour with a strong customer-service orientation; comfortable interacting with staff, visitors, and external partners from all backgrounds.
- Proven organisational skills, including the ability to balance daily routines with ad hoc requests and meet deadlines.
- Sound practical judgment for problem-solving—able to assess a situation (e.g., a spill, a broken appliance, a scheduling conflict) and decide on the best course of action.
- Genuine commitment to constitutionalism and human rights values, and willingness to participate in organisational events and meetings to understand the wider mission.
