Network Engineer

Role Overview

The corporate network engineer keeps the bank’s data, voice, and security infrastructure operating at the level required by business service agreements. Day to day, this means watching network health signals, responding to faults, tightening configurations, and applying updates before small issues become outages. The position matters because dependable connectivity underpins every transaction, internal service, and customer-facing system the bank runs.

Key Responsibilities

• Track and tune enterprise LAN/WAN performance using monitoring tools, device logs, SNMP data, and event alerts to catch degradation before users are affected.
• Investigate and resolve network faults across switches, routers, firewalls, and related infrastructure, coordinating with other technology teams when an issue crosses domains.
• Create, review, and enforce access control, data transmission, storage, backup, business continuity, security, and monitoring policies that align with compliance and audit expectations.
• Schedule and carry out firmware upgrades, firewall signature refreshes, security patches, and product updates across ICT assets with minimal service disruption.
• Study emerging networking, security, and platform trends, then recommend practical changes that improve performance, resilience, or functionality for the bank.
• Produce and maintain architecture documentation covering hardware platforms, operating systems, runtime environments, development and operations tooling, deployment models, and networking technologies.
• Install, configure, support, and maintain network devices, and take ownership of failures through to resolution or coordinated handoff.

Requirements & Qualifications

• A university degree is required, ideally in Electrical & Electronics Engineering, Computer Science, or a closely related IT field.
• Candidates must hold Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) certification; Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert (CCIE) status is preferred.
• Three or more years spent planning, analysing, designing, supporting, and developing complex LAN/WAN infrastructure, alongside broad networking and project management exposure.
• Practical integration work in mixed estates that span multi-user, multitasking platforms—for example UNIX (AIX, Solaris), Linux (RHEL, OpenShift), and Windows.
• Solid grasp of TCP/IP, IP telephony, and firewall appliances, with enough depth to configure and troubleshoot them.
• Hands-on history of planning, designing, developing, maintaining, and troubleshooting large, complex WANs, LANs, and client/server systems.
• Experience across multivendor networking technologies, including Cisco, Checkpoint, and Avaya.
• Broad knowledge of service provider networks, including hands-on work with service provider equipment and protocols.
• Awareness of current information security threats and the ability to craft effective countermeasures.
• Strong leadership record, including leading or facilitating mission-critical projects and building or guiding cross-disciplinary teams.
• Proven project management skill in cross-functional settings, with experience allocating resources to meet goals across several concurrent projects.
