Position Title: Motor Rewinder
Employment Nature: Full-time
Remuneration: Kshs. 50,000 (Net)
Location: Along Thika Road, Nairobi
We are seeking a precision-oriented Motor Rewinder to lead the diagnosis and restoration of electrical rotating machinery. In this critical technical role, you will manage the end-to-end repair process for AC/DC motors, transformers, and alternators. Your expertise will be required to disassemble complex units, calculate winding specifications, and execute manual or machine-assisted rewinding with absolute accuracy. The successful candidate must balance technical craftsmanship with rigorous safety standards to ensure every unit meets manufacturer performance benchmarks before deployment.
Diagnosis & Technical Assessment
Conduct detailed inspections of motors and alternators to pinpoint winding failures, insulation breakdowns, or mechanical damage.
Utilize specialized diagnostic tools including megohmmeters, multimeters, and surge testers to evaluate motor integrity.
Document fault patterns and provide technical recommendations for comprehensive repair or rewinding.
Precision Rewinding & Component Repair
Disassemble units with care, removing old coils and prepping stator or rotor cores without compromising structural integrity.
Calculate exact winding specifications—wire gauge, turn counts, and coil spacing—to align with original engineering drawings.
Execute rewinding tasks using specialized machinery or hand-placement techniques, ensuring optimal tension and alignment.
Apply varnishes and high-grade insulation materials to protect windings against thermal and mechanical stress.
Reassemble components, verifying mechanical balance and bearing alignment for smooth operation.
Testing, Quality & Maintenance
Perform post-repair continuity, resistance, and hipot testing to validate the quality of the new windings.
Conduct vibration analysis and mechanical checks to eliminate operational noise or friction issues.
Maintain a preventative maintenance schedule for workshop equipment and provide technical guidance to production teams on motor longevity.
Record all materials used and test outcomes to ensure full traceability for every repair project.
Background & Experience
Education: Diploma or Degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical & Electronics Engineering.
Proven Tenure: Minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience in professional motor rewinding and industrial repair.
Technical Mastery: Strong working knowledge of AC/DC motors, transformers, and alternators.
Equipment Proficiency: Skilled in operating winding machines and advanced diagnostic instruments.
Essential Skill Set
Analytical Ability: Expert at interpreting electrical schematics and complex technical drawings.
Precision: High level of accuracy and attention to detail in coil placement and tensioning.
Safety Commitment: Strict adherence to electrical safety protocols and the proper use of PPE.
Problem-Solving: Ability to troubleshoot persistent electrical issues and perform necessary rework to meet standards.
Competitive Net Pay: A take-home salary of Kshs. 50,000.
