From reconciling accounts to assisting with month-end closes, this role is the backbone of the finance team, keeping every digital and paper trail clean and compliant.
Key Responsibilities
- Post and verify all day-to-day transactions, maintain the general ledger, and keep supporting documents properly filed.
- Process supplier invoices, match them with purchase orders and delivery notes, and schedule payments according to agreed terms.
- Monitor customer accounts, send out statements, and follow up on overdue receivables to keep days sales outstanding low.
- Reconcile bank statements, vendor statements, and inter-company accounts on a weekly and monthly basis.
- Prepare routine financial reports such as expense summaries, aging reports, and cash position updates for management review.
- Assist with monthly management accounts, including accruals, prepayments, and variance analysis against budget.
- Ensure all tax filings, remittances, and compliance documentation (VAT, withholding tax, PAYE) meet statutory deadlines.
- Collaborate with procurement, sales, and operations teams to resolve billing discrepancies and improve finance workflows.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration (CPA or ACCA qualification in progress is a plus).
- At least 3 to 5 years of hands-on experience in finance, accounting, or bookkeeping, preferably within a growing SME or renewable energy company.
- Solid grasp of double-entry bookkeeping, financial controls, and month-end closing procedures.
- Working knowledge of Kenyan tax laws (VAT, withholding tax, PAYE, income tax) and statutory filings.
- Experience using accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage, or ERP systems like Odoo) and advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUPs).
- High attention to detail, ability to prioritise multiple deadlines, and a proactive problem-solving mindset.
- Demonstrated integrity when handling sensitive financial data and company funds.
