Role Overview
This clinician serves as a front-line medical officer within a clinic-and-hospital network, delivering continuous care from initial assessment through treatment and follow-up. The position combines acute and chronic disease management with preventive services, coordination across specialties, and active engagement in quality and patient safety work. The person in this role helps ensure patients receive timely, evidence-informed care while supporting efficient referrals and resource use across the wider health system.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive patient evaluations by obtaining medical histories, performing physical examinations, and ordering appropriate laboratory tests and imaging studies in line with current evidence and clinic protocols.
- Track and reassess patients with acute illnesses or long-term conditions, adjusting care plans as their clinical status changes.
- Lead conversations with patients and their families or caregivers about diagnoses, treatment options, and follow-up plans to support informed decisions.
- Perform emergency medical and surgical procedures within granted privileges when immediate action is needed to stabilize or save a patient.
- Deliver preventive care, including wellness exams, screenings, risk assessments, early detection, and education on illness prevention.
- Engage specialists and hospital departments promptly to develop timely, appropriate management plans for complex cases.
- Coordinate with clinic management and the main hospital to support smooth, efficient referrals and continuity of care.
- Partner with clinical and non-clinical colleagues to improve care coordination, reduce errors and waste, and use resources efficiently.
- Participate actively in quality improvement and patient safety efforts alongside clinic management and the quality team.
Requirements & Qualifications
- MBChB degree or an equivalent medical qualification.
- Completion of a postgraduate internship of at least two years.
- Active registration with the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Board.
- Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) certification.
