Role Overview
This position is part of the airline engineering maintenance team and is focused entirely on the health, reliability, and serviceability of all aircraft support equipment used across Kenya Airways and third-party operator fleets. On a daily basis, you will inspect, repair, overhaul, modify, and test ground support equipment, workshop machinery, and aircraft tooling, making sure every item is returned to service in a condition that meets original equipment manufacturer requirements and aviation safety standards. Your work matters because any breakdown in equipment or tooling can directly disrupt scheduled maintenance, delay aircraft turnarounds, and affect the dependability of the entire engineering operation.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform maintenance, repair, major overhaul, modification, and testing tasks on aircraft support equipment and aircraft tools, with an emphasis on achieving a fast turnaround time and using the least possible materials and resources.
- Inspect all incoming support equipment, workshop machinery, and tooling to identify defects, assess serviceability, and determine the correct repair actions in accordance with the appropriate Component Maintenance Manual.
- Execute all manufacturer service bulletins, engineering orders, and technical directives on equipment, machinery, and tooling, strictly following original equipment manufacturer specifications and procedures.
- Carry out fabrication work to produce or replace equipment, special tools, and piece parts, using engineering drawings, OEM specifications, and approved engineering orders as the basis for all output.
- Maintain accurate and complete documentation for every repaired, overhauled, or modified component, ensuring all records are properly signed, filed, and updated so that the component history remains current and traceable.
- Release equipment and machinery only after completing thorough post-maintenance checks, with the goal of achieving a nil-fault or nil-failure rate for all work issued back to service.
- Champion the company safety, health, and environment policy by participating in 5S audits, first aid drills, and fire marshalling exercises, and by reporting all incidents and accidents promptly through the agreed company procedures and safety reporting channels.
- Perform regular security checks in line with the engineering security document, Annex 8, to protect workshop and hangar areas and maintain the required security standards across all engineering zones.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Completion of a recognized apprenticeship, or possession of a relevant KNEC Engineering Diploma, or an equivalent engineering qualification from a recognized institution.
- At least three years of direct component maintenance or equipment maintenance experience, or successful completion of a two-year approved apprenticeship program.
- Demonstrated competence in maintenance work, with evidence of practical skill in at least one specialised trade, such as welding and fabrication, carpentry, or electrical wiring.
- Basic knowledge of aviation legislation and regulations, particularly those that apply to aircraft support equipment and engineering facilities.
- Solid understanding of industrial safety standards, including workshop hazards, safe handling of materials, and correct use of protective equipment.
- Ability to interpret and apply maintenance data, OEM manuals, engineering drawings, and service bulletins accurately in day-to-day repair and overhaul work.
- Working knowledge of material specifications and Material Safety Data Sheets, with the ability to identify, handle, and store materials safely and correctly.
- Computer literacy and familiarity with the IT systems and digital tools used for work orders, maintenance records, and daily engineering communication.
