Maintenance Technician – Production (Avionics/Mechanical Workshop)

Role Overview

This aircraft component maintenance role keeps your airline’s own fleet and third-party customers flying by returning components to a fully serviceable condition, fast. You’ll work inside a workshop environment, taking in parts that range from hydraulic actuators to avionics units, tearing them down, cleaning, inspecting against manufacturers’ manuals, performing approved repairs or overhauls, and testing before they go back into stock. Every task you complete must be logged and certified within your personal approval scope, and your ability to balance turnaround speed with meticulous compliance directly protects the airline’s schedule integrity and maintenance costs.

Key Responsibilities

• Receive aircraft components and workshop tooling, perform initial inspections, and decide whether each item can be repaired, overhauled, or must be scrapped based on defect assessments and the applicable Component Maintenance Manual (CMM).
• Disassemble units to the required level, clean all sub-components, and carry out detailed inspections for wear, corrosion, damage, or other limitations that affect airworthiness.
• Execute repairs, modifications, rectifications, replacements, overhauls, and testing strictly within the limits of your approved workshop certification, then certify your own output or, where allowed, the output of others.
• Complete accurate documentation for every component worked, ensuring history records are updated, signed, and traceable so that certification and component status remain valid at all times.
• Perform daily serviceability checks on workshop machinery, fixtures, and tools; log any defects and escalate issues that could compromise maintenance quality or personnel safety.
• Work in line with the company safety, health, and environment policy, participating in 5S housekeeping audits, first aid drills, and fire marshal exercises, and immediately reporting any incidents or near misses.
• Carry out security inspections in accordance with the engineering security document, protecting sensitive inventory and preventing unauthorized access to components or records.
• Use the hub critical list to prioritise high-demand components, adjusting your workflow to ensure urgent items are returned to service as quickly as possible, and implement service bulletins and CMM revisions as directed by development engineering.

Requirements & Qualifications

• Completion of a recognised apprenticeship programme, or a KNEC Engineering Diploma (or an equivalent qualification from an accredited institution).
• A minimum of three years of direct component maintenance experience, or two years gained through a structured apprenticeship in an approved aviation workshop.
• Formal training in at least one skill-based maintenance discipline, such as mechanical, electrical, or avionics component repair.
• Solid understanding of aviation legislation and regulations, especially KCAA requirements, and a working knowledge of industrial safety standards.
• Computer literacy with hands-on use of maintenance tracking systems, technical documentation databases, and standard office software.
• Familiarity with material specifications and Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) so chemicals, lubricants, and composites are handled safely and correctly.
• Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, follow precise repair schemes, and document work clearly with strong attention to detail.
• Capability to work under supervision while exercising sound judgement, especially when deciding whether a component can be restored to service or must be rejected.
