Maintenance Supervisor

Role Overview

This is a hands-on supervisory post at a remote luxury safari camp inside Tsavo West National Park, where you take ownership of the machinery and services that keep the property comfortable and functioning. Day to day you are moving between the workshop, the plant room and guest areas — directing a small technician crew, running a preventive maintenance schedule and chasing down faults before a guest ever notices them. Because the camp sits far from town and outside easy reach of contractors, a failed pump or generator does not stay a technical problem for long; it becomes a guest-experience problem, which is why this role carries real weight in how the camp performs.

Key Responsibilities

• Direct daily maintenance activity across guest rooms and public areas, camp buildings, plant and utility infrastructure, making sure nothing essential is left running on hope.
• Build and work to a preventive maintenance programme, tracking recurring faults and eliminating the root causes rather than repeatedly patching the same failures.
• Brief, coach and deploy technicians each shift, matching people to jobs and keeping the workshop tidy, stocked and the team productively engaged throughout the day.
• Handle job requests promptly, giving guest-facing faults first priority and seeing each repair through to a confirmed fix with proper follow-up.
• Maintain uninterrupted availability of power, water and standby systems, anticipating demand and load so service holds up around the clock.
• Liaise with Operations, Housekeeping and Food & Beverage to schedule and stage works so that noise, outages and access restrictions never intrude on the guest stay.
• Safeguard tools, spare stock and company property, keeping maintenance records and end-of-shift handover reports complete and accurate.
• Uphold safety and hygiene standards and set the tone for a professional, discreet presence whenever you or your team are working in guest-facing spaces.

Requirements & Qualifications

• A minimum of three years in hotel, lodge or safari-camp maintenance, with at least one of those years spent supervising technicians.
• Demonstrated ability to run a complete maintenance shift independently and to design, implement and sustain a preventive maintenance plan.
• Practical, hands-on competence in electrical work, plumbing and general building or plant maintenance, including operating and servicing generators.
• Fluent spoken and written English.
• Willingness to live on site at camp and work a rotating shift pattern that includes weekends, public holidays and call-outs, alongside a rotational leave cycle.
• Composure under pressure, a guest-first mindset, and a dependable record on standards, safety and personal integrity.
• Advantageous: prior safari camp or luxury lodge experience, solar or PV system knowledge, vehicle maintenance skills, and a relevant trade certificate or diploma.
