Role Overview
You will join a credit-only short-term lender that specialises in fast, same-day loans for employed individuals. In this role, you are responsible for building and protecting a sound loan portfolio, which means reviewing applications quickly without sacrificing due diligence, funding approved loans accurately, and then driving repayments so every loan is collected as agreed. On any given day, you will alternate between assessing borrower documentation, approving transactions within policy limits, and making high-volume outbound calls to keep clients engaged and on schedule with their obligations.
Key Responsibilities
- Assess incoming short-term loan applications, verify borrower information and documentation, and carry out the necessary due diligence before any disbursement is processed.
- Prepare approved loans for payment accurately and promptly, ensuring all internal policy conditions and compliance requirements have been satisfied.
- Keep in regular contact with borrowers, addressing questions and concerns while building long-term, positive relationships that encourage repeat business.
- Proactively monitor your own loan portfolio, remind clients of upcoming due dates, and pursue overdue payments to keep collection rates at their intended level.
- Maintain precise records for every loan application, approval, disbursement, and repayment event in your assigned portfolio.
- Compile clear, accurate daily, weekly, and monthly reports covering collections performance and overall portfolio health for management review.
- Achieve both growth and recovery targets by balancing new lending opportunities with disciplined follow-up on outstanding balances.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or Diploma in a business-related discipline.
- At least four years’ experience in microfinance, a lending institution, or a SACCO setting.
- Demonstrated experience in credit management, loan administration, or debt collection within a formal lending environment.
- Comfort with high-volume telephony and the ability to keep up momentum while daily calling workloads are heavy.
- Strong persuasive communication skills, both spoken and written, to handle client objections and negotiate repayment arrangements.
- Self-motivated and able to work independently with minimal supervision while still meeting strict monthly targets.
- A keen eye for detail, strong organisational discipline, and a results-oriented approach to portfolio management.
- An outgoing, confident personality with the ability to engage professionally with borrowers across different social and economic backgrounds.
