Job Description

Role Overview

This position is responsible for the day-to-day planning, coordination, and administration of all line maintenance activities at outstations within the network, ensuring that both Kenya Airways and third-party schedules run safely, on time, and within budget. The role involves close monitoring of technical performance, regular oversight visits to outstations, and acting as the key technical link between local maintenance providers and the airline’s main control centre. By maintaining strong relationships with regulatory authorities and contracted organisations, this role ensures that contingency situations and AOG recoveries are handled swiftly and effectively, directly supporting the company’s operational reliability and strategic objectives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Analyse technical delays at line outstations and initiate corrective actions or procedural improvements to boost dispatch reliability and on-time performance.
  • Conduct regular technical oversight visits to outstations to verify safety standards, compliance, and operational readiness for Kenya Airways and customer flights.
  • Support the Lead in evaluating the cost-effectiveness of outsourced line stations by preparing well-researched analysis and budget inputs, then ensuring approved budgets are adhered to.
  • Participate in the setup of new line stations, including assessing local capabilities, coordinating regulatory approvals, and ensuring all requirements are met.
  • Build and maintain professional relationships with line maintenance management and regulatory bodies across the network to secure reliable support during routine operations and emergencies.
  • Ensure all maintenance carried out at outstations complies with company procedures, quality standards, and applicable regulations, while monitoring the availability of tools, ground support equipment, and spares in serviceable condition.
  • Provide technical and logistical assistance to outstations during AOG recoveries, and support quality audits by ensuring timely closure of any findings.
  • Manage and update contractual agreements with contracted handling organizations, proactively anticipate customer needs, and prepare monthly performance reports on outstation activities.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • A university degree or diploma in a relevant engineering or aviation field.
  • At least 6 years of working experience, including a minimum of 2 years in an aircraft maintenance environment.
  • Aircraft type training on one or more aircraft types within the Kenya Airways fleet is an added advantage.
  • Working knowledge of KCAA and EASA requirements, as well as Kenya Airways procedures and standards.
  • Familiarity with third-party operator procedures, SGHA contracts, and the IATP (International Airlines Technical Pool).
  • Understanding of project management methodology, with strong organisational and inter-departmental liaison skills.
  • Diplomatic, customer-oriented, and skilled in written and verbal communication.
  • Demonstrated personal accountability, strategic thinking, business acumen, and a commitment to achieving company objectives.
  • Sound judgement, attention to detail, and proven planning skills, with the ability to support and develop others.
