Lecturer - Geography

Role Overview

This academic position centres on delivering high-quality geography teaching across undergraduate and postgraduate programmes while actively building a strong research profile. The successful candidate will take ownership of modules, contribute to curriculum innovation, and produce scholarly outputs that enhance the department's reputation and support the university's revenue goals. Beyond the classroom, the role involves supervising students, pursuing external funding, and sharing knowledge through publications and professional engagement.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, plan, and deliver lectures, practical sessions, and tutorials across assigned geography courses, ensuring inclusive and effective learning experiences.
• Develop new modules and full programmes of study, taking the lead on course content, assessment strategies, and learning materials.
• Regularly review and update existing course content to reflect current research, academic best practice, and evolving student needs.
• Collaborate with departmental colleagues on curriculum reform, interdisciplinary teaching initiatives, and shared research projects.
• Conduct independent and joint research, authoring scholarly articles, books, or other creative outputs and working to secure research grants.
• Present findings at national and international conferences, workshops, and symposia to broaden the impact of your work.
• Provide academic advising, mentorship, and career guidance to undergraduate and postgraduate students, as well as junior staff.
• Seek and participate in consultancy opportunities that apply geographical expertise to real-world challenges and strengthen professional networks.

Requirements & Qualifications

• A Bachelor's, Master's, and PhD in Geography or a closely related field from a recognised or accredited institution.
• At least twenty-four (24) publication points, with a minimum of sixteen (16) derived from peer-reviewed articles in reputable journals.
• A minimum of three (3) years of post-qualification professional experience in teaching, research, or a complementary geography-related role.
• Current registration with the relevant professional or regulatory body for geography academics.
• Demonstrated ability to deliver engaging lectures, manage large classes, and assess student work fairly and effectively.
• Strong record of producing research outputs and evidence of active involvement in grant writing or consultancy projects.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the capacity to collaborate across departments and external partners.
