Role Overview
This position is built around the daily work of teaching: preparing lessons that match the competency-based curriculum, guiding learners through activities that build real skills, and checking regularly on whether each child is actually progressing. The teacher manages assessment records, adapts instruction for learners working at different levels, and keeps parents informed about how their children are doing. The role matters because steady, well-planned classroom teaching is what converts curriculum documents into measurable learner achievement and a school's academic reputation.
Key Responsibilities
< ulcer>
- Prepare schemes of work, lesson plans, and teaching materials that align with competency-based curriculum designs and the expected learning outcomes for each stage.
- Deliver learner-centred lessons that emphasise practical application, problem-solving, and active participation rather than memorisation alone.
- Design and administer formative and summative assessments, then use the results to adjust teaching and give targeted support where learners are struggling.
- Maintain accurate records of work, assessment data, and individual progress reports, and submit them within set deadlines.
- Create and sustain a safe, orderly, and inclusive classroom in which learners of differing abilities are both supported and appropriately challenged.
- Communicate consistently with parents and guardians about learner progress, strengths, and areas that need attention.
- Work alongside fellow teachers on curriculum implementation, departmental planning, and the sharing of teaching resources.
- Take part in co-curricular activities, staff meetings, and continuing professional development, and comply with the Teachers Service Commission's code of conduct at all times.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Current, valid registration with the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) — this is mandatory for the position.
- A minimum of three years of relevant, hands-on teaching experience.
- Relevant academic and professional teaching qualifications appropriate to the level being taught.
- Demonstrated competence in implementing the competency-based curriculum, including a clear grasp of how competencies are assessed and reported.
- Excellent spoken and written English.
- Strong professional ethics, integrity, and accountability when handling learners, records, and confidential information.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills for engaging learners, colleagues, and parents.
- A genuine commitment to child-centred learning and to raising academic standards.
