Role Overview
This position is the driving force behind Terre des hommes’ efforts to unlock new and smarter funding for child-focused humanitarian programmes. You will take the organisation’s innovative financing strategy from concept to reality, working across countries and technical areas to identify emerging capital sources, build credible partnerships, and translate complex financial instruments into workable initiatives. Day to day, this means balancing market analysis, stakeholder convening, and pilot coordination so that finance teams, programme leads, and external investors all move in the same direction — ultimately ensuring Tdh can fund its mission sustainably beyond 2028.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the execution of Tdh’s innovative financing roadmap within priority countries, regions, and thematic programmes, adapting global financing trends into local, practical entry points.
- Monitor shifts in donor priorities, capital markets, and development finance mechanisms, then distil those signals into clear recommendations for senior leadership and programme teams.
- Build and maintain a living knowledge base of relevant financing actors, tools, and vehicles — from multilateral funds to impact investors — and share it through workshops, briefings, and tailored training sessions.
- Partner with finance, legal, risk, compliance, and MEAL colleagues to identify capability gaps and propose concrete ways to strengthen Tdh’s readiness for innovative financing deals.
- Engage and manage relationships with external stakeholders such as development finance institutions, donors, commercial banks, consultancies, and academic institutions to advance pilot initiatives.
- Represent Tdh in external forums, consortia, and working groups, positioning the organisation as a credible and knowledgeable player in the humanitarian finance space.
- Coordinate the design and early roll-out of financing pilots in strategic fields such as climate resilience, health, child protection, or migration, ensuring technical partnerships and governance structures are in place.
- Capture and document early lessons from pilots, feeding them back into organisational strategy and refining the roadmap for the period beyond 2028.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Master’s degree in finance, economics, development studies, public policy, business administration, or another closely related discipline.
- Specialised training or certification in blended finance, impact investing, development finance, or a similar field.
- At least seven years of professional experience in innovative financing, humanitarian finance, or development finance, with demonstrated exposure to the instruments and mechanisms used in these sectors.
- Proven experience working with multilateral development banks, development finance institutions, or consultancies focused on humanitarian and development finance.
- A track record of collaborating effectively across cross-functional teams, particularly with finance, legal, and programme stakeholders, and the ability to align their different priorities.
- Strong capacity to turn market intelligence into coherent strategy, concrete proposals, and implementable project plans.
- Excellent analytical, project management, and communication skills, including the ability to explain complex financial concepts to non-financial audiences.
- Familiarity with the operational realities and constraints of international NGOs is an advantage.
- Experience in engaging external partners such as donors, private-sector actors, or DFIs in a structured partnership or business development role.
- Solid understanding of impact measurement frameworks and the ability to integrate reporting requirements into pilot design.
- Professional fluency in English is required; working knowledge of French is a strong asset.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel and PowerPoint, for analysis and presentation purposes.
