Role Overview
This position is the central point of contact for all people-related operations, taking ownership of everything from daily HR administration to high-stakes industrial relations. The role supports management with complex labour matters, including retrenchment processes, disciplinary and grievance hearings, while also running payroll end-to-end and ensuring legal compliance across the organisation. By aligning people practices with business goals and maintaining a compliant, engaged workforce, this role directly strengthens the company's operational stability and employer reputation.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain HR strategies, policies, and procedures that align with overarching company objectives, and monitor day-to-day compliance with those policies.
- Act as the company's internal labour consultant, guiding management through retrenchments, grievance hearings, disciplinary proceedings, and interactions with labour attorneys.
- Manage the end-to-end payroll function, including setting up new hires, terminating leavers, capturing hours and leave data, processing deductions for pensions and garnishments, and ensuring accurate and timely pay runs.
- Lead recruitment and onboarding, including job classification, updating job descriptions, interviewing, hiring, conducting inductions, and managing exit interviews for departing staff.
- Coordinate performance management by facilitating annual appraisals, ensuring every employee has defined KPIs, and identifying training needs that emerge from appraisal outcomes—then sourcing and vetting suitable training providers.
- Administer employee benefits, particularly medical insurance, acting as the link between staff and providers for claims, enrollments, renewals, and resolving coverage issues; oversee statutory compliance certificates such as NSSF and SHIF.
- Manage leave administration, ensuring accurate balances, tracking usage, addressing over-accruals, and providing monthly leave data for payroll and compliance purposes.
- Strengthen workplace culture by planning company events such as team building sessions, year-end functions, staff socials, and birthday celebrations—including budgeting, sourcing vendors, and negotiating contracts—while also making periodic visits to satellite offices to ensure policy adherence and cohesion.
