The work directly supports the expansion of sustainable homeownership options and the delivery of mixed-income communities in Kenya, requiring a blend of investment acumen, real estate expertise, and public-private partnership management.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and implement a comprehensive funding strategy for the mortgage book, incorporating instruments such as REITs, bond issuances, blended finance arrangements, tenant purchase schemes, and security-based lending products to diversify capital sources.
- Lead the full cycle of capital raising efforts, from identifying institutional and development finance partners to negotiating terms and closing transactions that fund portfolio growth and new housing projects.
- Develop and execute financing models for affordable housing programs, working across public and private sector collaborations to make housing more accessible and commercially viable.
- Evaluate and structure real estate investments and development projects, conducting financial feasibility analysis, due diligence, and ongoing risk monitoring to ensure returns align with strategic objectives.
- Oversee a diverse project pipeline, coordinating planning, budgeting, implementation, and reporting while ensuring all stakeholders remain aligned on milestones and deliverables.
- Analyse housing market dynamics, regulatory changes, and demographic shifts to identify emerging investment opportunities and inform strategic decisions for senior leadership.
- Lead and mentor multidisciplinary technical teams covering project management, valuation, construction, and property advisory services, fostering a culture of excellence and accountability.
- Develop and refine internal policies, investment frameworks, and risk management systems that safeguard the institution's housing and property portfolio.
- Cultivate and sustain relationships with national and county government agencies, development partners, impact investors, and other key actors in the housing ecosystem to unlock collaborative opportunities.
- Provide actionable market intelligence and expert advice to the executive team on funding strategies, real estate investment trends, and emerging risks or opportunities in the housing sector.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in architecture, quantity surveying, building economics, construction management, or a closely related discipline from an accredited institution.
- Professional certification in project management, real estate finance, sustainable or green finance, capital raising, or fundraising is required; a postgraduate degree (MBA, MSc, MA, or equivalent) is a distinct advantage.
- At least eight years of professional experience, with a minimum of five years in affordable housing, real estate development, project management, housing finance, or investment management.
- Track record of successfully raising capital, structuring transactions, and negotiating real estate funding or development finance deals in complex environments.
- Demonstrated ability to manage investment portfolios, drive business development, and lead cross-functional teams with measurable results.
- In-depth understanding of affordable housing programs, housing finance instruments, real estate markets, and the regulatory frameworks governing property and investment in Kenya.
- Familiarity with Kenyan socioeconomic, demographic, and housing market trends and how they influence demand, pricing, and financing structures.
- Strong analytical, financial modelling, stakeholder engagement, and strategic leadership skills, with a commercial and results-oriented mindset.
- High level of professional integrity and the ability to build trust with senior executives, government officials, and external capital partners.
