Job Description

Role Overview

This role is part of a dedicated resource mobilisation team that secures and sustains funding for health research initiatives and institutional projects. Working closely with scientists, finance staff, and busy project teams, you will help turn promising funding possibilities into well-prepared, persuasive proposals and keep the entire lifecycle of each opportunity on track. Your behind-the-scenes coordination will allow researchers to focus on technical content while you handle donor intelligence, submission logistics, and partner communications.

Key Responsibilities

  • Scan grants databases, donor bulletins, foundation websites, and sector networks to identify new funding opportunities aligned with the institution’s research priorities.
  • Help develop concept notes, expressions of interest, full grant applications, and supporting annexes by gathering technical input, drafting narrative sections, and coordinating review cycles.
  • Assemble budgets, CVs, institutional charts, previous audit statements, and other compliance documents needed for submissions, ensuring each package follows funder rules.
  • Build and maintain shared databases and filing systems that capture donor histories, open calls, submitted proposals, current statuses, decisions, and feedback.
  • Monitor deadlines, progress milestones, requests for additional information, and pending actions; proactively remind colleagues and follow up on applications awaiting responses.
  • Support communication with existing and prospective funders, research collaborators, and development partners through meeting scheduling, briefing notes, and courteous correspondence.
  • Contribute to periodic reports and pipeline summaries that show resource mobilisation activity, outreach results, and funding secured across different grants.
  • Carry out additional administrative and coordination tasks for the resource mobilisation unit whenever they are assigned by the supervisor.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree from a recognised institution in Biomedical Sciences, Medical Sciences, Social Sciences, or another field closely relevant to this work.
  • Practical proficiency with everyday computer applications, including email, word processing, spreadsheets, and record-management or database software.
  • Ability to search online platforms efficiently and assess whether a funding call is worthwhile, relevant, and appropriately timed.
  • Clear written communication skills sufficient to produce concise drafts, tailored summaries, and professional donor-facing messages.
  • A strong sense of order, accuracy, and discretion when handling multiple deadlines, institutional records, and sensitive funding information.
  • Productive teamwork skills, with the ability to take direction from senior specialists and to coordinate comfortably with research and finance colleagues.
