General Manager

Role Overview

This General Manager role places you at the helm of a large-scale bakery manufacturing facility in Mlolongo, Machakos, where you will own the full operational and financial performance of the plant. Day to day, you integrate production throughput, commercial sales, supply chain logistics, and rigorous food safety systems into a coherent, profit-driven operation. The position demands a seasoned manufacturing executive who can bridge strategic boardroom planning with hands-on factory oversight, ensuring every department—from procurement to distribution—executes efficiently and profitably in a competitive FMCG environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and execute multi-year business strategies that scale baking capacity, reduce unit costs, and increase overall profitability, translating corporate targets into actionable KPIs for all department heads.
• Oversee daily factory operations to align raw ingredient procurement, baking schedules, packaging, and dispatch logistics, using lean production techniques to minimize waste and control energy use.
• Take full accountability for the company’s P&L, including annual budget formulation, OpEx and CapEx planning, margin analysis, and cost-of-goods-sold management in collaboration with the finance team.
• Work closely with commercial sales leaders to design go-to-market strategies that improve route-to-market efficiency, retail market share, and the retention of key institutional accounts and wholesale distributors.
• Enforce food safety and quality frameworks—HACCP, GMP, ISO 22000—ensuring full compliance with municipal health codes, labor laws, and environmental regulations across all mixing, baking, packaging, and loading areas.
• Lead internal and third-party audit readiness, conducting root-cause analysis and implementing corrective actions to maintain high-quality output and zero-defect standards.
• Mentor and evaluate senior departmental heads, fostering cross-functional collaboration and building a resilient leadership pipeline through talent acquisition, training, and succession planning.
• Present regular performance metrics, growth roadmaps, and objective operational data to the board of directors and executive leadership, driving continuous improvement and strategic alignment.

Requirements & Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Operations Management, Supply Chain Management, Food Science, Finance, or a directly related field; a Master’s degree or MBA is highly preferred.
• At least 8 years of progressive senior management experience within FMCG, bakery operations, food and beverage processing, or heavy manufacturing environments.
• Proven P&L ownership, including managing multi-million-dollar plant budgets, controlling operational costs, and expanding revenue across multiple channels.
• Deep working knowledge of food manufacturing systems, food hygiene governance, and regulatory audit protocols such as HACCP, ISO 22000, and KEBS standards.
• Strong commercial vision with the ability to drive route-to-market strategies, product pricing, and distribution logistics in a competitive FMCG landscape.
• Executive-level leadership skills that combine emotional intelligence with decisive command, enabling you to manage diverse teams from floor operators to senior strategists.
• Analytical precision to interpret complex operational metrics, financial reports, and line efficiency data and act quickly on insights.
• Must be fully based at or able to relocate to the Mlolongo, Machakos site for full-time, on-site industrial plant oversight.
