Role Overview
You will act as the financial guardian of a well-established manufacturing operation located along Mombasa Road, working closely with executive leadership to keep the business commercially viable. Your days will involve translating production activity into monetary terms—setting budgets, auditing cost lines, supporting pricing decisions, and steering cash so the plant runs without interruption. This role matters because accurate financial oversight directly influences factory efficiency, investment choices, and the company’s long-term stability in a competitive industrial environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the annual budgeting cycle and build rolling forecasts that account for raw material price shifts, factory output levels, and overhead absorption.
- Maintain costing frameworks for finished goods, work-in-progress, and raw materials—tracking variances between standard and actual production costs and explaining discrepancies.
- Prepare monthly management accounts, statutory financial statements, and performance packs that give leadership a clear picture of profitability, liquidity, and productivity.
- Carry out financial appraisal of capital projects—machinery purchases, line expansions, or efficiency upgrades—using cash flow modelling, break-even analysis, and return-on-investment assessment.
- Manage the full working capital cycle by monitoring receivables collection, supplier payment schedules, banking facilities, and daily cash requirements.
- Inspect inventory levels and valuation practices regularly to balance uninterrupted production against unnecessary capital tied up in stock.
- Strengthen internal controls across procurement, production, and disbursement processes to deter fraud, limit wastage, and ensure segregation of duties.
- Coordinate tax submissions, regulatory filings, and external audit engagements, acting as the primary finance contact for compliance bodies and statutory authorities.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Commerce, or Business Administration; possession of CPA(K) or ACCA qualification (fully certified or at finalist level) is mandatory.
- A minimum of eight years’ progressive experience in finance management environments, with meaningful time spent inside a manufacturing, processing, or heavy industrial plant.
- Proven skill in product costing, inventory accounting, cost variance analysis, and ERP-based financial systems used in production settings.
- Advanced Excel capabilities for building complex financial models, conducting sensitivity analysis, and preparing dashboards for non-financial stakeholders.
- Solid working knowledge of taxation, statutory reporting, and compliance obligations affecting manufacturers in Kenya.
- The ability to discuss operational figures with production and procurement teams, translating technical data into practical recommendations.
- Strong leadership presence, sound judgment, and a commitment to ethical financial management in a pressured industrial environment.
