Role Overview
This position centres on the full lifecycle of electrical building services design, from initial concept through to detailed drawings, tender documentation, and on-site supervision during construction. You will work within a multidisciplinary consultancy team, ensuring that every electrical deliverable is technically sound, code-compliant, and issued to clients on schedule. Your work will directly influence the safety, energy efficiency, and operational reliability of a wide range of building and infrastructure projects across Kenya.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop conceptual, schematic, and detailed electrical designs for building services, including power distribution, lighting, fire alarm, and low-voltage systems.
- Prepare comprehensive tender documents, including technical specifications, schedules, and drawings, to support the procurement process.
- Carry out construction supervision duties, including reviewing shop drawings, inspecting installations, and ensuring works align with design intent and applicable standards.
- Perform lighting calculations and photometric analysis using DIALux or Relux to optimise illumination levels and energy performance.
- Coordinate electrical designs with other disciplines, such as mechanical, civil, and structural teams, to resolve clashes and maintain integrated project delivery.
- Conduct site surveys and condition assessments of existing electrical installations, identifying constraints and informing design decisions.
- Ensure all designs comply with relevant Kenyan and international codes, including IEE/BS 7671, KEBS/KS, IEC, and NFPA requirements.
- Support the team in responding to client queries, contractor clarifications, and authority approvals throughout the project lifecycle.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical & Electronic Engineering from a recognised university.
- 5–8 years of post-graduation experience, specifically in electrical building services design, tender documentation, and construction supervision.
- Registration as a Graduate Engineer with the Engineers Board of Kenya (EBK), with sufficient logged experience to be progressing toward Professional Engineer registration.
- Demonstrated project experience across residential, commercial, institutional, and industrial buildings, as well as infrastructure and renewable energy projects.
- Sound working knowledge of applicable codes and standards, including IEE/BS 7671 wiring regulations, KEBS/KS and IEC standards, and NFPA fire and life-safety codes.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD for technical drawing production and in DIALux or Relux for lighting design and photometric analysis.
- Prior experience working within a consultancy environment, with a track record of delivering quality outputs under deadline pressure.
- Strong communication and coordination skills to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team and with external clients.
