Role Overview

As a Driving Instructor, you spend your days turning nervous beginners into calm, capable road users. Reporting to the Branch Manager, you deliver both classroom theory and behind-the-wheel coaching, adapting your approach to each learner's confidence, pace and weaker areas. Your instruction directly shapes how many learners pass their NTSA tests and, more importantly, how safely they drive once they are out on the road alone.

Key Responsibilities

• Teach structured theory sessions covering traffic laws, road signs, right-of-way rules, hazard recognition and defensive driving principles.
• Run practical in-vehicle lessons that build control of the clutch, brakes, gears, steering and mirrors, along with correct observation, signalling and road positioning habits.
• Coach learners through progressively tougher situations, including parallel parking, three-point turns, reversing, hill starts, roundabouts, junctions and highway driving.
• Assess each learner's test readiness, run practice or mock tests, and give clear, specific feedback on the skills that still need work.
• Keep accurate records of lessons delivered, hours completed, competencies achieved and learner progress for branch and NTSA compliance purposes.
• Carry out pre- and post-lesson vehicle checks — tyres, brakes, lights, mirrors and fluid levels — and report any fault or damage without delay.
• Enforce safety at all times: seatbelt use, strict control of the dual-control vehicle, and immediate intervention whenever a learner's action puts anyone at risk.
• Keep your own knowledge current as traffic regulations and NTSA testing requirements change, and manage your daily lesson schedule with minimal supervision.

Requirements & Qualifications

• A valid driving licence covering the class of vehicle you will instruct in.
• An NTSA-accredited Instructor Training Certificate together with a current Instructor Licence.
• KCSE certificate.
• At least two years' experience in technical training, driver instruction or classroom teaching.
• A Certificate, Diploma or Degree in Technical Training, an automotive-related course, Education or a similar field is an added advantage.
• Demonstrated ability to work with minimal supervision and organise your own day-to-day schedule.
• Strong customer service, interpersonal, presentation and communication skills, including the patience to explain the same concept in several different ways.
