Role Overview
This position is the backbone of our field operations, responsible for ensuring that staff, visitors, and partners reach their destinations safely and on schedule. Day to day, you will manage transport logistics, keep the assigned vehicle in optimal working condition, and support administrative and community-facing activities that keep our programmes running smoothly. Your reliability directly impacts our ability to deliver services in the communities we serve.
Key Responsibilities
- Transport staff, visitors, and donors to and from fieldwork sites, offices, and other official engagements, always following planned routes and schedules.
- Coordinate with the administration team to arrange additional vehicles and drivers for major events such as donor visits, campaigns, assessments, and baseline surveys.
- Deliver parcels, mail, and other materials between offices and field locations, ensuring timely and secure handover.
- Support community mobilisation efforts by helping to organise logistics and transport for outreach activities.
- Keep the vehicle spotless, well-maintained, and mechanically sound; carry out routine checks, minor repairs, and ensure timely servicing.
- Maintain accurate records of trips, mileage, fuel usage, and vehicle condition in the logbook, and submit monthly reports with all supporting documents.
- Follow all traffic laws and organisational policies, including parking rules, key custody procedures, and permission protocols for vehicle use.
- Report any vehicle malfunctions or accidents promptly, and assist with the paperwork needed for repairs, insurance claims, and fuel reconciliation.
Requirements & Qualifications
- KCSE certificate or equivalent secondary education qualification.
- Minimum of 3 years of driving experience, holding a valid licence in classes B, C1, C, CE, D3, or CD under the current classification system.
- Solid understanding of basic motor vehicle maintenance, including the ability to spot and address minor mechanical issues.
- Computer literacy, particularly for recording trip data and preparing simple reports.
- First Aid certification or other safety-related training is an added advantage.
- Defensive driving certification is an added advantage.
- Prior experience working in an NGO or similar humanitarian environment is an added advantage.
