Role Overview
This position sits at the centre of the engineering workflow, turning rough concepts, field notes, and design briefs into precise, buildable technical drawings across multiple disciplines. You will work closely with engineers to capture every dimension accurately, keep drawing sets current through multiple revisions, and support site teams by making sure what gets constructed actually matches the approved plans. Your work directly affects project safety, material ordering, and construction quality, so precision and clear documentation are essential from day one.
Key Responsibilities
- Produce and update detailed 2D and 3D CAD drawings for civil, structural, architectural, and mechanical disciplines, ensuring each sheet aligns with engineer-approved specifications.
- Interpret rough sketches, verbal instructions, and design notes, translating them into clean, fully dimensioned technical drawings ready for review or construction.
- Revise existing drawings promptly whenever project requirements change or engineers provide feedback, tracking every version to prevent outdated plans from circulating.
- Verify that all drawings follow relevant industry standards, local codes, and company drafting conventions before submission.
- Maintain an organised digital and physical filing system for drawings, markups, revision histories, and design references.
- Perform quantity take-offs from detailed drawings to support bills of quantities and material schedules for structures, machinery, and paved areas.
- Carry out regular site visits to monitor contractor work against approved drawings and specifications, flagging discrepancies and documenting compliance issues.
- Check that delivered materials match approved specifications and drawings, reporting any deviations to the project team.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Diploma or degree in civil engineering, drafting, or a directly related technical discipline.
- At least three years of practical experience as a draughtsman, CAD technician, or similar role within construction, civil works, or industrial projects.
- Solid proficiency in AutoCAD, BricsCAD, or ArchiCAD, with the ability to prepare accurate layouts, sections, and details efficiently.
- Strong ability to read and interpret blueprints, engineering specifications, and construction drawings with high attention to detail.
- Working knowledge of construction and engineering principles, enough to anticipate coordination issues and catch obvious design conflicts.
- Experience performing material take-offs and preparing bills of quantities from working drawings.
- Good verbal and written communication skills for liaising with engineers, supervisors, and contracting teams.
- Demonstrated time management, with a record of meeting drawing deadlines during multiple concurrent project tasks.
- Sound observation and reporting skills for site supervision and material compliance checks.
- Ability to work independently, exercise professional judgment, and challenge inconsistencies in designs when necessary.
