Role Overview
This position supports the day-to-day running of a self-catering cottage in Naivasha, where guests expect a spotless, well-stocked and welcoming home from the moment they arrive. The person in this role owns the cleaning, laundry and basic cooking routines that keep the property guest-ready, including preparing Indian meals for the household. Reliability matters here: the cottage's reputation depends on consistent standards of cleanliness, discretion and care for guests' belongings.
Key Responsibilities
- Clean and reset guest bedrooms, bathrooms, the kitchen, lounge, pantry, staff quarters and shared areas so every room is ready for occupation.
- Strip and remake beds, exchange towels, vacuum and dust, and carry out scheduled deep cleaning of floors, high-touch surfaces, curtains and soft furnishings.
- Plan and cook Indian dishes to the household's preferred style and meal times, including shopping for ingredients and keeping the kitchen hygienic before and after cooking.
- Run the complete laundry cycle — sorting, washing, drying, ironing, folding and maintaining linen and towel stock so nothing runs short.
- Monitor cleaning products and household consumables, replenish them before they are depleted, and report breakages, faults or maintenance needs promptly.
- Safeguard guest property by working carefully, respecting private areas, and leaving rooms and storage secure at all times.
- Maintain safe, tidy and sanitary work areas, appliances and equipment, following sound hygiene practices throughout the working day.
- Provide extra support during peak occupancy, back-to-back guest turnovers or special housekeeping projects as they arise.
Requirements & Qualifications
- At least 7 years of hands-on domestic housekeeping experience, ideally gained in a private residence, guesthouse or self-catering property.
- Demonstrated skill in preparing Indian cuisine, with the confidence to cook independently for the household.
- Fluent spoken English and the ability to communicate clearly with the household, guests and other staff.
- Comfortable operating common household appliances and cleaning equipment, including washing machines, dryers, irons, vacuum cleaners and steam cleaners.
- Strong personal hygiene, a neat and professional presentation, and a courteous manner around guests.
- Trustworthy, well organised and discreet with other people's property, able to work unsupervised as well as within a small team.
- Clean criminal record and good general health, confirmed by a recent medical examination.
- Documents to be submitted: updated CV, National ID, Certificate of Good Conduct issued within the last three months, KRA PIN, NSSF and SHIF details, reference letters, a passport-size photograph, education and work certificates, and a current health check report.
