Job Description

Role Overview

This position sits within the University Library's Digital Scholarship Centre, where the person in post will act as a multimedia producer and learning-technology enabler for our academic community. Day to day, you will shoot photographs and video for library initiatives, design visual assets for publications and outreach, build online research guides and digital course materials, and keep the Centre's media and lending equipment in working order. Your efforts will help faculty, students, and staff integrate digital tools into their teaching, learning, and research, making the Library a more active partner in the University's scholarly mission.

Key Responsibilities

  • Photograph and film University Library events, spaces, and people, then edit and deliver the resulting media for internal or public-facing publications.
  • Design original graphics, layouts, and promotional artwork for reports, newsletters, posters, and other communication materials produced by the Library.
  • Gather publication records from faculty and staff, enrich them with correct metadata, and deposit the materials into the institutional repository for long-term access and discoverability.
  • Work with instructors and subject-matter experts to convert course content into structured LibGuides and online modules, incorporating videos, readings, quizzes, and interactive activities.
  • Support blended-learning initiatives by advising students and faculty on learning-management tools, multimedia assignments, and educational technology practices.
  • Serve as a first point of contact for general ICT issues within the Digital Scholarship Centre, performing basic troubleshooting, administrative tasks, and user support as required.
  • Conduct routine checks, software updates, and maintenance on Centre equipment (cameras, computers, recording devices, and related hardware) to guarantee readiness and usability.
  • Assist the wider Library team with circulation and customer-service duties, including the issuing and return of loanable technology such as laptops and tablets.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • A Bachelor's degree in computer science, information science, multimedia technology, or a closely related discipline.
  • At least two years of relevant hands-on experience, ideally gained within an academic library, higher-education environment, or comparable institutional setting.
  • Demonstrable proficiency in photography, videography, and modern graphic design applications, with a portfolio or evidence of past multimedia work.
  • Practical competence in ICT troubleshooting and routine maintenance of computer hardware and media equipment.
  • Familiarity with creating LibGuides, learning guides, or similar web-based instructional resources is an added advantage.
  • Strong organisational ability, clear written and spoken communication, and a customer-focused approach to helping staff and students.
  • Comfortable working across both macOS and Windows operating systems and able to switch between them as tasks require.
