Role Overview
You will be the person who turns project briefs, site measurements, and architectural drawings into buildable engineering designs for electronic security and life safety installations — including CCTV, access control, public address, voice alarm, and intercom networks. Working under the Project Engineering Lead within the Unified Security Solutions unit, you will produce CAD layouts, carry out walkthrough surveys, and create complete bills of quantities that allow procurement, installation, and MEP teams to operate from one accurate source of truth. Because these systems are often embedded in complex building structures, getting the details right before work begins directly affects installation quality, budget control, and client acceptance.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop 2D and 3D technical drawings and block diagrams for security, access control, PAVA, IP-PBX, intercom, and entrance-control systems using AutoCAD, Revit, and related BIM tools.
- Conduct structured on-site surveys to verify dimensions, document existing services, identify obstructions, and capture the physical constraints that influence every design decision.
- Prepare itemised bills of quantities by translating design layouts into accurate equipment counts, cable lengths, containment quantities, and supporting materials.
- Review architectural, electrical, and structural drawings in coordination with MEP consultants, ensuring security devices, cable pathways, and conduits align with building services and do not clash with other trades.
- Develop and manage as-built drawing records, revision histories, and controlled document sets through the entire project lifecycle.
- Attend design and site progress meetings, record minutes, log design clarifications, and address technical queries raised by clients or the field team.
- Check all design output against local safety standards, contract specifications, and the company’s quality expectations before drawings are released for construction.
- Evaluate emerging security hardware and recommend practical, cost-conscious design improvements that add value without over-engineering the solution.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Diploma or bachelor’s degree in electrical, mechanical, or civil engineering, urban planning, or a closely related technical discipline.
- Minimum 2 years of professional experience in CAD drafting, engineering design, or electronic security / life safety systems.
- Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD, including the use of model and layout space, xrefs, layers, blocks, and revision-controlled drawing production.
- Working knowledge of Revit or another BIM environment is strongly preferred.
- Ability to read and interpret architectural floor plans, electrical schematics, structural drawings, and MEP coordination layouts.
