Role Overview
You will act as an independent credit risk specialist, conducting rigorous reviews of financing applications and existing credit facilities that require approval above the standard delegated authority level. Your analysis and written summaries will directly inform senior credit committees and enable sound, defensible decisions on complex and structured lending requests. By applying strong judgement, understanding of client sectors, and adherence to Shariah-compliant policies, you help protect the institution while enabling appropriate business growth.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform independent, objective credit assessments on new and renewal financing requests, focusing on those exceeding the credit officer's delegated authority.
- Analyse financial statements, projected cash flows, working capital cycles, and repayment capacity to determine the borrower's creditworthiness.
- Evaluate complex credit structures, including syndications, project finance, asset-backed facilities, and tailored Shariah-compliant products.
- Prepare concise, well-substantiated credit analysis summaries and risk ratings for submission to senior credit committees or approvers.
- Identify key credit risks, mitigating factors, and covenant or structural conditions to protect the bank's exposure.
- Review collateral valuations, security arrangements, and facility terms to ensure alignment with policy and adequate loss coverage.
- Monitor sector trends and economic conditions that may affect the quality of existing or proposed credit exposures.
- Ensure all credit assessments are compliant with internal policies, including KYC/AML requirements, Shariah governance rules, and regulatory standards.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in an analytical business discipline, such as finance, economics, accounting, or a related field; an MBA or MSc in business is advantageous.
- Professional certification such as CPA, CFA, or another relevant qualification is strongly preferred.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in a financing, credit analysis, or credit risk management function within a bank or financial institution.
- Demonstrated experience in undertaking credit evaluations, including complex credit assessments, structured transactions, and facility restructurings.
- Thorough knowledge of credit risk analysis across different economic sectors, with the ability to assess industry-specific volatility and borrower dynamics.
- Sound understanding of Shariah policies and processes applicable to Islamic credit and financing operations.
- Advanced computer proficiency, particularly in Microsoft Word and Excel, including the ability to build financial models and present analytical outputs clearly.
- Strong working knowledge of relevant bank policies and regulatory frameworks, including KYC and AML procedures.
- Excellent communication and report-writing skills, enabling clear presentation of technical analysis for senior decision-makers.
