Role Overview
This role is focused on deepening and expanding the bank’s footprint in the Oil & Gas industry by owning end-to-end client relationships across the value chain—from exploration and production (upstream) to transportation and refining (midstream and downstream) and supporting oilfield service providers. Day-to-day, you will evaluate each client’s financial health, structure credit facilities tailored to their project cycles, and cross-sell trade finance, cash management, and treasury products to ensure both portfolio profitability and risk discipline. Your work directly supports the bank’s strategic push into energy lending, making you a key driver of revenue growth in a highly specialized sector.
Key Responsibilities
- Originate and manage a portfolio of Oil & Gas corporate clients (upstream, midstream, downstream, and oilfield services), delivering customized financial solutions that address their unique capital requirements.
- Lead all stages of the credit process—from initial pitch and due diligence to structuring, documentation, and ongoing monitoring—ensuring compliance with the bank’s risk appetite and regulatory standards.
- Structure and execute complex financing transactions, including project finance for energy assets, reserve-based lending, and trade finance instruments (e.g., letters of credit, receivables discounting).
- Proactively identify cross-selling opportunities by introducing cash management, foreign exchange hedging, supply chain finance, and other corporate banking products to deepen client relationships.
- Conduct regular client visits and industry analysis to stay current on commodity price trends, regulatory shifts, and operational challenges affecting the Oil & Gas sector.
- Negotiate loan terms, pricing, covenants, and collateral structures in coordination with credit risk, legal, and product specialists to reach mutually beneficial agreements.
- Monitor portfolio performance through early warning systems, covenant compliance tracking, and periodic financial reviews, escalating potential credit deterioration promptly.
- Collaborate with internal teams (coverage, product, risk, and operations) to deliver seamless service and resolve client issues related to transaction processing or account management.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Economics, Banking, or a closely related field; a professional banking certification (e.g., CIBN, ACIB) is advantageous but not required.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in corporate banking, with at least 3 years spent managing large corporate or institutional client relationships.
- Demonstrated experience covering Oil & Gas clients is highly preferred, including familiarity with the sector’s risk dynamics, regulatory environment, and cyclical nature.
- Strong functional knowledge of structured finance, project finance, and trade finance products—especially as applied to energy-sector transactions.
- Proven ability to analyze financial statements, build cash flow models, and assess collateral adequacy for multi-million-dollar credit facilities.
- Excellent negotiation, presentation, and interpersonal skills, with the confidence to advise C-level executives and influence credit committees.
- Intermediate to advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and corporate banking CRM systems.
