Job Description

Role Overview

This position focuses on cultivating and managing client relationships within Kenya's construction and infrastructure ecosystem, from large contractors to material suppliers. Day-to-day, you will identify lending opportunities, structure bespoke financing packages, and oversee credit risk for a portfolio of corporate clients. Your work directly supports national development priorities like housing and infrastructure while driving the bank's revenue growth in this strategic sector.

Key Responsibilities

  • Originate and structure financing solutions—including project finance, working capital, and contract finance—for companies in construction, engineering, real estate, and related fields.
  • Manage a portfolio of corporate relationships, performing regular credit assessments and ensuring compliance with lending covenants.
  • Identify and pursue opportunities related to public-private partnerships, affordable housing programs, and county government infrastructure projects.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to conduct due diligence, prepare credit proposals, and present to risk committees.
  • Monitor market trends in Kenya's construction and infrastructure sectors to anticipate client needs and adjust product offerings.
  • Negotiate terms and pricing for loan facilities, syndications, and trade finance products tailored to construction value chain participants.
  • Support the end-to-end transaction process from initial pitch through disbursement and ongoing portfolio monitoring.
  • Maintain deep knowledge of regulatory requirements affecting construction lending, including environmental and procurement standards.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, Economics, Banking, Quantity Surveying, Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Professional certifications such as AKIB, CPA(K), ACCA, CFA, or equivalent considered a strong advantage.
  • Minimum five years of experience in corporate banking, with at least three years specifically managing corporate client relationships.
  • Proven track record in financing construction, infrastructure, engineering, or real estate clients—experience with project finance and contract financing is essential.
  • Solid understanding of infrastructure lending risk factors, including progress payment structures, performance bonds, and off-take agreements.
  • Familiarity with Kenya’s construction industry landscape, key players, and regulatory frameworks (e.g., National Construction Authority, PPP Act, procurement laws).
  • Strong analytical, negotiation, and communication skills; ability to build trust with C-level stakeholders in client organizations.
