Role Overview
This position focuses on cultivating and managing client relationships within Kenya's construction and infrastructure ecosystem, from large contractors to material suppliers. Day-to-day, you will identify lending opportunities, structure bespoke financing packages, and oversee credit risk for a portfolio of corporate clients. Your work directly supports national development priorities like housing and infrastructure while driving the bank's revenue growth in this strategic sector.
Key Responsibilities
- Originate and structure financing solutions—including project finance, working capital, and contract finance—for companies in construction, engineering, real estate, and related fields.
- Manage a portfolio of corporate relationships, performing regular credit assessments and ensuring compliance with lending covenants.
- Identify and pursue opportunities related to public-private partnerships, affordable housing programs, and county government infrastructure projects.
- Collaborate with internal teams to conduct due diligence, prepare credit proposals, and present to risk committees.
- Monitor market trends in Kenya's construction and infrastructure sectors to anticipate client needs and adjust product offerings.
- Negotiate terms and pricing for loan facilities, syndications, and trade finance products tailored to construction value chain participants.
- Support the end-to-end transaction process from initial pitch through disbursement and ongoing portfolio monitoring.
- Maintain deep knowledge of regulatory requirements affecting construction lending, including environmental and procurement standards.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, Economics, Banking, Quantity Surveying, Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Professional certifications such as AKIB, CPA(K), ACCA, CFA, or equivalent considered a strong advantage.
- Minimum five years of experience in corporate banking, with at least three years specifically managing corporate client relationships.
- Proven track record in financing construction, infrastructure, engineering, or real estate clients—experience with project finance and contract financing is essential.
- Solid understanding of infrastructure lending risk factors, including progress payment structures, performance bonds, and off-take agreements.
- Familiarity with Kenya’s construction industry landscape, key players, and regulatory frameworks (e.g., National Construction Authority, PPP Act, procurement laws).
- Strong analytical, negotiation, and communication skills; ability to build trust with C-level stakeholders in client organizations.
