Role Overview
This is a hands-on entry point into a professional kitchen, where you will spend your shifts turning raw ingredients into plates that meet the house standard — prepping, cooking, plating, and resetting your station so service never stalls. You are the layer that keeps the line moving: when prep is accurate and stations are clean and stocked, senior chefs can focus on execution instead of scrambling. Expect to learn fast, take direction, and gradually take on more responsibility as your technique sharpens.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and cook assigned menu items following established recipes, portion sizes, and presentation standards.
- Complete mise en place — washing, peeling, cutting, measuring, and portioning ingredients ahead of service.
- Keep your workstation, tools, and shared kitchen equipment clean, organised, and ready for use throughout the shift.
- Apply food safety and hygiene rules at all times, including correct handling, temperature control, and sanitation practices.
- Label, date, and rotate stored food properly, and flag when stock levels need replenishing.
- Help receive and check incoming deliveries, confirming quantities and condition before items are stored.
- Support senior chefs and other team members during peak service, stepping in wherever the line needs help.
- Reduce waste by using ingredients efficiently, and complete assigned cleaning duties and end-of-day closing tasks.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Certificate or diploma in Culinary Arts, Hospitality, or a related field is preferred.
- Prior kitchen experience is an advantage, though candidates without it are welcome to apply.
- Basic grasp of food preparation methods and familiarity with common kitchen tools and equipment.
- Working knowledge of food safety, hygiene, and sanitation standards.
- Comfort working under pressure and keeping pace during busy service periods.
- Clear communication and a cooperative approach to working within a team.
- Availability for shift work, including weekends and public holidays.
- Physical stamina to stand for long stretches and safely lift and move kitchen supplies.
