Job Purpose
The Commercial Finance Analyst is responsible for providing timely, accurate, and insightful financial analysis to support commercial decision making and drive business performance. The role ensures effective financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, tax compliance, and financial reporting while partnering with cross-functional teams to identify growth opportunities, optimize costs, and enhance profitability. The incumbent will support the organization's commercial strategy by delivering data-driven insights, maintaining financial integrity, ensuring regulatory compliance, and continuously improving financial processes to achieve sustainable business objectives.
Roles & Responsibilities
Financial Analysis & Reporting
- Analyze financial data and create financial models for decision support.
- Evaluate financial information to assess the company’s strengths and weaknesses, develop strategies to reduce waste and decrease costs, and implement strategies to improve financial stability.
- Prepare daily, weekly, monthly and ad hoc reports to support business decision making.
- Prepare KPI analysis and supporting commentary on key variances.
- Manipulate and analyze data to identify underlying trends.
- Consistently strive to improve processes and the quality of finance data.
Tax Compliance & Analysis
- Monthly taxes review and analysis.
- Retrieval of tax GL entries for analysis and populating Excel files for taxes to be paid.
- Physical checking of all invoices for input in tax returns.
- Populate data packs for review before uploading them on iTax.
- Prepare and upload customs payments in SAP and follow up on approvals.
- Follow up on tax certificates for withheld VAT/WHT from suppliers.
- Update tax payment schedule post tax returns and payments.
- Update export rebates schedule and non-recoverable tax schedules.
- Prepare supporting documents for month-end tax journal for review (WHTax, WHVAT, iTax credits).
- Review monthly KRA reports on VAA and cross-check with SAP records (invoices, journals) and bank payments.
- File monthly VAA amendments on iTax as required by KRA.
- Retrieval of documentation for external/internal audits and KRA audits.
Budgeting & Forecasting
- Monthly revenue forecast.
- Lead the company budgeting process.
- Guide the cost analysis process by establishing and enforcing policies and procedures.
Commercial Support & Strategy
- Collaborate with the sales and marketing department to create new promotions and marketing campaigns to bring in new revenue.
- Consult with the management team to develop long-term commercial plans.
- Investment analysis and business cases.
Accounting & Administration
- Manage the accounting function of the entities assigned from time to time.
- Prepare Payment Request Forms (PRFs) for signing.
Educational Qualifications, Experience & Competencies
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in finance or accounting.
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience working in any of the above stated roles.
- Proven experience in the e-commerce landscape.
- Strong financial modeling experience.
