Job Description

Role Overview

This position offers a qualified Advocate the opportunity to grow within a well-established, medium-sized law firm that handles a broad range of practice areas. The core focus of the role is property and real estate work, including conveyancing, due diligence, and client advisory, alongside meaningful involvement in commercial transactions and contract matters. You will manage files independently from initial instructions through to registration, working closely with colleagues, clients, and external stakeholders such as lenders, government offices, and land professionals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Advise clients on the legal requirements and processes involved in purchasing, selling, leasing, and charging property, and provide clear written opinions on real estate matters.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of legal documents, including sale agreements, lease agreements, completion documents, and security documents, ensuring they are properly executed and registered.
  • Conduct thorough due diligence on conveyancing transactions by searching land records, examining titles, and verifying ownership and encumbrances before completion.
  • Manage client matters before the Lands Registry, local authorities, the Survey of Kenya, and the National Lands Commission, tracking filings and ensuring statutory deadlines are met.
  • Liaise with key stakeholders such as mortgage lenders, estate agents, land valuers, surveyors, and government departments to coordinate transactions and resolve any legal or procedural issues.
  • Support the commercial side of the practice by preparing legal opinions, conducting contract reviews, and assisting with intellectual property due diligence embedded in agreements and transactional matters.
  • Prepare and issue terms of engagement, fee estimates, and disbursement schedules for clients, and maintain effective communication to build lasting professional relationships.
  • Contribute to business development by delivering excellent service to existing clients and identifying opportunities to expand the firm's client base through new instructions and repeat work.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • A Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree with an upper second-class honours or equivalent from a recognised university.
  • At least two (2) years of post-admission experience working in a busy law firm, with demonstrated exposure to conveyancing or commercial transactions.
  • A valid practising certificate and admission as an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya.
  • Strong legal research, writing, and drafting skills, with the ability to produce accurate documents and opinions under tight deadlines.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and the ability to manage pressure while maintaining a high standard of professionalism and discretion.
  • A person of unquestionable integrity, with strong attention to detail and the capacity to work both independently and as part of a team.
