We prepare the next generation of leaders and innovators through world-class teaching methods with an emphasis on 21st century skills. We established Nova Pioneer because we believe education should prepare young people to create their future, not just work in it. Nova Pioneer is a launchpad where ambitious young Africans can begin to shape a better future for the continent and the world. We began by asking ourselves the question, "What capabilities will young people need to succeed in and shape the future that they will encounter, and what approaches to education will best develop those capabilities?” All of our founders have extensive backgrounds in education at top institutions across the globe, having studied at universities such as Harvard and Stanford and led education programs for McKinsey and Co., the African Leadership Academy, and top school networks in the US (Excel Academies). Yet at Nova Pioneer we believe that you never stop learning. So we visited and studied leading schools spanning from Singapore to Peru, and the United States to the United Kingdom. We connected with leaders of the cutting-edge education research, and leading thinkers on 21st Century Learning such as Sir Ken Robinson and teachers and atelieristas from Reggio Emilia, the leading global early education model, to name a few. We launched our first school in South Africa in 2014, with the aim of incorporating the best education models in the world, while keeping it as affordable as possible. We’ve since expanded within South Africa, and to Kenya as well - with our first Kenyan school launching in 2015. In all of our schools, we bring in and train top educators to deliver educational excellence in an environment that nurtures our students to uncover their potential and blaze trails in the world beyond our school walls. Job Description

Role Overview

This position places you inside a vibrant school classroom as a co-teacher working alongside a resident teacher to deliver enquiry-based learning that sparks curiosity and academic growth. Day to day, you will split your time between leading core content lessons, supporting students during supervised learning, assessing progress, and partnering with families to keep every child engaged and thriving. Your work directly supports the school’s mission to cultivate confident, joyful learners and to build a pipeline of transformative educators who will shape the future of education across the continent.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the resident teacher to plan and deliver enquiry-based lessons, co-creating an organised, developmentally appropriate classroom environment that keeps students focused and motivated.
  • Lead a portion of core content lessons while supervising and supporting students during other instructional periods, ensuring smooth classroom transitions and positive student behaviour.
  • Assess student progress continuously, using data from observations, assignments, and evaluations to adjust content and delivery for individual and group growth.
  • Communicate regularly with parents in partnership with the resident teacher, including attending parent conferences and providing updates on student achievement and needs.
  • Take part in daily team reflections, weekly professional development sessions, and instructional coaching to refine your practice and embrace feedback.
  • Plan, coordinate, and lead an after-school co-curricular activity, bringing energy and structure to a group of students across different ages.
  • Maintain the classroom environment by preparing lesson materials, documenting and displaying student work, and keeping the space tidy and conducive to learning.
  • Fulfil supervision duties during arrival, lunch, playtime, and dismissal, and support school-wide events and committees as assigned.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Possess a valid TSC certificate and a relevant degree in Education.
  • Have at least 1–2 years of teaching experience in a classroom setting.
  • Demonstrate working proficiency with G-Suite applications (Sheets, Docs, Slides) and video conferencing platforms such as Zoom, Google Meet, or Microsoft Teams.
  • Communicate clearly and effectively in both written and verbal forms with students, staff, and parents.
  • Show flexibility and adaptability, handling ambiguity, complexity, and change with poise.
  • Approach challenges proactively, identifying issues and working through solutions with care and persistence.
  • Exhibit a strong commitment to collaboration, mutual vulnerability, and using feedback as a tool for growth.
  • Bring enthusiasm for developing leadership skills and applying them to positively impact the lives of young learners.

What We Offer / Why Join

This role is designed for an educator who wants to grow rapidly through hands-on practice, structured coaching, and a culture that treats feedback as fuel. You will join a collaborative team where daily reflection and weekly professional development sharpen your instructional skills, and you will gain meaningful leadership experience that positions you for advancement within the organisation. If you are energised by challenge, eager to learn alongside colleagues, and passionate about transforming education for African youth, this is a place where your development is taken as seriously as your students’ success.
