Job Description
Role Overview
You will be part of the cabin workshop team responsible for keeping aircraft interiors airworthy, presentable, and compliant with airline and third-party maintenance standards. Your daily work involves hands-on repairs and replacements of cabin components, from laminates and carpets to seats and emergency equipment, while also supporting aircraft movements and heavy maintenance tasks. This role directly protects schedule reliability and helps the MRO facility deliver cost-effective, high-quality cabin maintenance services.
Key Responsibilities
- Replace cabin laminate panels on Kenya Airways and third-party aircraft, ensuring correct fit, finish, and adherence to engineering specifications.
- Prepare and install carpets across various cabin zones, including precise cutting, padding placement, and secure fastening to OEM standards.
- Fabricate and repair seat components such as cushions, trim pieces, and structural fittings, and support seat reassembly and functionality checks.
- Fabricate, prepare, and install cabin kick strips, seat track covers, and thresholds to maintain both aesthetics and passenger safety.
- Tow aircraft between base parking, ramp positions, and designated engine run taxiways, following ground handling and safety protocols.
- Perform cabin furnishing inspections during scheduled maintenance checks, identifying damage, wear, or non-compliance and completing required documentation.
- Inspect and replace emergency equipment including life vests, oxygen generators, fire extinguishers, and first aid kits, verifying serviceability and expiry dates.
- Assist with aircraft weighing tasks during ad hoc and heavy maintenance events, including equipment setup and accurate recording.
- Carry out cabin servicing tasks such as seat cleaning, tray table repairs, and general interior restoration duties.
- Conduct fumigation procedures for aircraft undergoing heavy maintenance, using approved chemicals and protective measures.
- Operate and maintain motorized equipment used across the MRO facility, following company procedures and completing routine checks.
- Adhere strictly to all published health and safety requirements, using personal protective equipment and reporting hazards as per manuals.
- Support the Cabin Workshop supervisor with any other reasonable duties assigned to meet operational priorities.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Diploma in an engineering field, a national trade test certificate, or a certificate in upholstery from a recognized institution. Equivalent hands-on experience in aircraft interiors or fabric repair is acceptable.
- At least two years of experience in an aircraft upholstery environment or with aircraft interior fabric work, including familiarity with tools and techniques such as sewing, trimming, and layup.
- A valid driving license, with a heavy vehicle license highly preferred. Training on aircraft equipment operations will be considered in lieu of prior towing experience.
- Computer literacy for completing maintenance records, reading digital work orders, and using basic software for inspection documentation.
- Strong technical and mechanical aptitude, with the ability to work methodically on detailed interior components without compromising quality or speed.
- Analytical thinking skills to assess damage, determine repair vs. replacement, and make sound decisions that balance cost, safety, and schedule.
- Ability to work effectively within a team, follow written procedures, and communicate clearly with supervisors and inspectors.
- Physical fitness for tasks involving lifting, crouching, and working in confined cabin spaces for extended periods.
