Baker (Supermarket)

Role Overview

Prepare fresh bread, pastries, cakes, and other baked goods for a supermarket in Athi River, following established recipes and daily production needs. This full-time, on-site role helps keep the bakery section stocked with appealing products while maintaining consistent quality and safe food-handling practices.

Key Responsibilities

• Measure, mix, knead, shape, proof, and bake products using approved recipes and production methods.
• Operate commercial mixers, ovens, proofing cabinets, dough sheeters, scales, and related bakery tools safely.
• Check each batch for consistent taste, texture, appearance, and doneness.
• Keep work surfaces, equipment, utensils, trays, and ingredient storage areas clean and sanitised.
• Follow food hygiene procedures, including practices that prevent cross-contamination.
• Track supplies such as flour, yeast, sugar, and fats, and notify a supervisor when stock is running low.
• Weigh, package, and label finished products for display and sale.
• Coordinate with store colleagues to have fresh goods ready for busy shopping periods; prepare new or seasonal items when requested.

Requirements & Qualifications

• At least one year of practical baking experience in a commercial kitchen, bakery, or supermarket.
• Working knowledge of dough preparation, fermentation, baking times, oven temperatures, and common baking techniques.
• Familiarity with food hygiene, sanitation, and cross-contamination prevention.
• Careful measurement and recipe-following skills, with close attention to timing and product quality.
• Clear communication and the ability to work cooperatively in a busy retail setting.
• Willingness to work shifts, including early mornings, weekends, and public holidays.
• Ability to stand for extended periods and handle heavy ingredients such as flour or sugar.
• Available for full-time, on-site work in Athi River.
