Job Description

Role Overview

This position sits within the metal finishing team, applying electrochemical and chemical treatments to aircraft parts that are being repaired or overhauled. Your daily focus will be on keeping plating lines running to specification, controlling solution chemistry, and verifying that every component leaves the shop with the required corrosion resistance and dimensional accuracy. The work directly supports aircraft airworthiness by restoring worn or damaged parts to serviceable condition and protecting them against environmental degradation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Run electroplating processes including cadmium, nickel, and chromium deposition, adjusting current density, bath temperature, and immersion time to achieve the required coating thickness and adhesion.
  • Prepare components for treatment by masking off critical areas, degreasing, abrasive cleaning, and activating surfaces to ensure uniform plating results.
  • Monitor and maintain plating bath chemistry by performing titrations, measuring pH and specific gravity, and replenishing solutions as needed.
  • Operate and care for tanks, rectifiers, filters, and related equipment, including routine servicing and troubleshooting process anomalies.
  • Apply conversion coatings, anodizing, passivation, and chemical etching techniques when specified in the repair documentation.
  • Interpret engineering drawings, repair schemes, and finishing specifications to determine the correct sequence, masking approach, and acceptance limits for each job.
  • Complete job cards, plating logs, and component history records so that every step is traceable and compliant with aviation regulatory requirements.
  • Inspect parts before and after plating using calibrated gauges, micrometers, and visual methods to confirm dimensional tolerances and surface quality.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Diploma in electroplating, applied sciences, aircraft maintenance, mechanical engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • Minimum three years of hands-on experience in aerospace plating, surface finishing, or a machine shop environment serving the aviation industry.
  • Working knowledge of industry plating specifications such as AMS 2404, AMS 2401, MIL-DTL-5541, and related corrosion-protection standards.
  • Familiarity with quality systems including AS9100, ISO 9001, and ISO/IEC 17025, especially regarding process control and record keeping.
  • NASF certification such as Certified Electroplater Finisher is highly desirable, though an aircraft maintenance license may also satisfy the technical background requirement.
  • Practical understanding of EASA or military aviation plating requirements and the associated documentation expectations.
  • Certification or demonstrable training in hazardous materials handling and chemical safety, with a consistent record of using personal protective equipment.
  • Strong attention to detail, with the ability to read engineering drawings and use precision measuring instruments accurately.
