Audio & Production Coordinator

Role Overview

This position keeps the school's stages and gathering spaces sounding and running at a professional standard — operating live audio and lighting for chapels, assemblies, concerts, musicals, plays, ceremonies and athletic fixtures, and holding the auditorium, backstage zones, costume and prop stores in reliable working order. On any given day you might be testing a console before a rehearsal, tracking down a buzzing monitor line mid-performance, or reorganising a prop store so the next production can find what it needs. The role sits close to the heart of the school's purpose: these events are where students discover and demonstrate their gifts, and strong technical support is what lets that happen without distraction.

Key Responsibilities

• Mix and run live sound and lighting for the full calendar of school events and productions, including audio feeds configured to support live streaming.
• Set up, test, operate, maintain and troubleshoot consoles, microphones, speakers, amplifiers and lighting equipment, relying on a trained ear for tone, balance and clarity as well as sound lighting technique.
• Work alongside directors, teachers, production leaders and student performers to translate artistic and technical requirements into a workable plan, and confirm all equipment and spaces are ready before rehearsals and performances begin.
• Maintain, label, catalogue and organise sound equipment, instruments, costumes, props and other production materials, and arrange repair, replacement or disposal of damaged, obsolete or unusable items.
• Conduct regular inspections of the auditorium and other performance spaces and backstage areas — lighting, monitors, walkways, seating, floors — arranging repairs so everything stays clean, safe, organised and presentable.
• Handle booking requests from the wider community for the auditorium and events facilities, giving precedence to calendared school events, and liaise with production leads on ticketing and front-of-house arrangements.
• Run pre-event checks and respond quickly to technical or operational problems that arise during live productions.
• Supervise the Sound Technician when required — allocating duty schedules, monitoring standards and upholding a high level of cleanliness, organisation and professionalism — and coordinate with Activities, Facilities and IT as events demand.
• Guide students taking part in chapel services, presentations, theatre and concerts on the safe and responsible use of audio-visual equipment and production spaces, supporting their hands-on operation within agreed limits and supervisory arrangements.

Requirements & Qualifications

• Formal training — a relevant diploma or degree from a recognised institution — in sound engineering, audio production, music technology or a related discipline, or substantial equivalent experience.
• At least two years of relevant work experience; experience within a school or similar educational setting is a distinct advantage.
• A well-developed ear for tone, clarity, balance and overall sound quality.
• Practical hands-on experience operating live sound consoles, microphones, speakers and amplifiers, with an understanding of appropriate lighting techniques.
• Demonstrated ability to maintain inventories and equipment records and to keep storage well organised.
• Proven capacity to plan and coordinate technical support for events, work effectively within a team and collaborate across departments.
• Good working knowledge of IT, including projector setup and PowerPoint presentations.
• Basic understanding of electrical safety, plus knowledge of workplace hazards and safe working practices.
• Effective communication in English, both spoken and written.
