In 1963 the company introduced hybrid seed maize production following the release of the first hybrids by the government Research centre in Kitale. Seed wheat was added to the seed program in 1971 to provide certified seed to farmers who previously depended on low quality farm saved seeds. In 2002 Simlaw Seeds was registered as a limited liability company and a subsidiary of Kenya Seed Company Ltd. Its core business is selling and marketing of high quality horticultural seeds, pesticides and fertilizers in the East African region. In the same year Kenya seed incorporated Kibo and Mt. Job Description

Role Overview

Kenya Seed Company is accepting applications from university and college students for industrial attachment placements in areas that match their ongoing degree or diploma studies. This programme exists to close the gap between academic concepts and actual industry practice, giving students a structured environment where they can apply what they have learned while developing professional confidence. As an equal opportunity employer, the Company views attachments as a key part of its commitment to building future talent and strengthening links between higher learning institutions and the seed sector.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work under the guidance of departmental supervisors to complete tasks that reflect the daily realities of the organisation.
  • Participate in field, laboratory, or office-based activities as assigned, depending on your area of specialisation.
  • Record observations and compile simple reports that contribute to departmental decision-making and continuous improvement.
  • Observe and uphold the Company’s quality assurance and safety standards while handling seed samples, data, or client interactions.
  • Attend orientation and mentorship sessions designed to expose you to the broader seed production and distribution value chain.
  • Collaborate with professional staff on routine processes, ensuring assigned work is completed on time and to acceptable quality levels.
  • Document daily learning activities and present a summary at the end of the attachment, as may be required by your institution or the Company.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Must be a continuing student enrolled in a recognised university or college, pursuing a degree or diploma in a relevant discipline.
  • Relevant fields include agriculture, agribusiness, plant breeding, seed science and technology, horticulture, agricultural economics, business administration, human resource management, ICT, accounting, or other programmes aligned with the Company’s operations.
  • Must have a recommendation or introduction letter from your institution confirming that the attachment is a mandatory component of your studies.
  • Should be able to commit to the full period of attachment as stipulated by your learning institution.
  • A genuine interest in learning, reliability, and the ability to follow instructions are essential.
  • Applicants from all backgrounds who meet the above criteria are encouraged to apply, as the Company does not discriminate on the basis of gender, disability, or other unrelated factors.

What We Offer

Successful students gain supervised, practical exposure to the workings of a major seed company, including hands-on engagement with experienced professionals and the opportunity to understand how institutional knowledge translates into agricultural outputs. By the close of the programme, you will have a clearer picture of the professional environment related to your field, as well as documented experience that supports your academic and career growth.
