Swahilipot Hub Foundation is a non-profit organisation that meaningfully engages and empowers youth aged 18 to 35, enabling them to unleash their full potential. Based in Mombasa, Kenya, it is regulated by the NGO Coordination Board of Kenya. In 2016, Mahmoud Noor (alias Mentor001) founded Swahilipot Hub with support from the National Museums of Kenya, SEACOM, ICT Authority, and Cisco — opening a space where coastal youth could explore technology, innovation, and creative talent. What began as a community-based organisation focused on technology and innovation has grown into an NGO with diverse program areas and reach across East Africa. View more View less

Job Description

Role Overview

This hands-on attachment program places you within Swahilipot Hub’s active project teams, where you will contribute to real digital initiatives while learning from experienced technologists and entrepreneurs. Over three months, you will rotate through core functions such as community management, event coordination, content creation, and tech support—gaining the cross-functional exposure needed to launch a career in Kenya’s innovation ecosystem.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the daily operations of the hub, including member check-ins, space maintenance, and resource allocation.
  • Assist in planning and executing community events, workshops, and demo days—from logistics to participant follow-up.
  • Create and schedule social media content that highlights hub activities, resident stories, and upcoming opportunities.
  • Document and report on project milestones, meeting notes, and feedback from community members.
  • Provide basic technical support during events (AV setup, connectivity troubleshooting) and help maintain shared equipment.
  • Conduct research on local tech trends and compile briefs for the hub’s strategic planning.
  • Collaborate with cohort peers on a capstone project that addresses a real challenge faced by the hub or its startups.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in or a recent graduate of a diploma or degree program in IT, business, communications, or a related field.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English and Swahili.
  • Familiarity with basic digital tools (Google Workspace, Canva, social media platforms).
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, open-plan environment.
  • Demonstrated interest in technology, entrepreneurship, or community development.
  • Reliable internet access and a personal laptop for remote tasks when required.
  • Prior volunteer or internship experience is a plus, but not mandatory.

What We Offer / Why Join

This is a structured pathway into East Africa’s innovation landscape. You will receive mentorship from seasoned hub staff and resident founders, build a portfolio of tangible work, and grow your professional network through daily exposure to startups, investors, and partners. The program is designed to bridge the gap between academic learning and industry expectations—giving you confidence and references for your next career step.
