Swahilipot Hub Foundation is a non-profit organisation that meaningfully engages and empowers youth aged 18 to 35, enabling them to unleash their full potential. Based in Mombasa, Kenya, it is regulated by the NGO Coordination Board of Kenya. In 2016, Mahmoud Noor (alias Mentor001) founded Swahilipot Hub with support from the National Museums of Kenya, SEACOM, ICT Authority, and Cisco — opening a space where coastal youth could explore technology, innovation, and creative talent. What began as a community-based organisation focused on technology and innovation has grown into an NGO with diverse program areas and reach across East Africa. View more View less

Job Description

Role Overview

As an attaché at Swahilipot Hub, you will contribute to real projects across technology, innovation, and community engagement alongside experienced professionals. Your daily work involves supporting ongoing initiatives, assisting with event coordination, and learning how a leading Kenyan innovation hub operates from the inside. This role matters because it directly feeds into the hub’s mission of nurturing local talent and driving digital transformation in the region.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in planning and executing community events, workshops, and hackathons that bring together developers, entrepreneurs, and creatives.
  • Support the content creation team by drafting social media posts, blog articles, and newsletters to promote hub activities.
  • Help maintain and update internal documentation, project boards, and communication channels used by hub members and staff.
  • Collaborate with mentors and senior developers on small-scale technical projects, such as prototyping a simple web app or debugging existing tools.
  • Conduct research on emerging technologies or market trends and present findings to the team in weekly stand-ups.
  • Manage logistics for guest speakers and partner organisations, including scheduling, venue setup, and attendee follow-up.
  • Participate in daily team huddles and contribute ideas for improving hub operations or member experience.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Current enrollment in or recent graduation from a diploma or degree programme in computer science, information technology, business information technology, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated interest in technology, innovation hubs, or startup ecosystems – for example, through personal projects, campus clubs, or prior volunteer work.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English and Swahili, with the ability to engage diverse audiences.
  • Basic proficiency with at least one programming language (e.g., Python, JavaScript, HTML/CSS) or willingness to learn quickly under guidance.
  • Comfortable using collaboration tools such as Slack, Trello, Google Workspace, or similar platforms.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team, managing multiple small tasks with attention to detail.
  • No prior full-time work experience required; this attachment is designed for early-career individuals.

What We Offer / Why Join

You will gain hands-on exposure to the daily operations of an innovation hub that connects tech talent, startups, and industry leaders in Mombasa. The programme runs for twelve weeks from September to November 2026, offering a structured learning path with mentorship and feedback from experienced professionals. This is a chance to build a portfolio of real deliverables, network with peers and potential employers, and understand what it takes to launch a career in Kenya’s digital economy.
