Role Overview
This Accounts Assistant position sits within the finance team and supports the full transaction cycle, from verifying source documents to posting entries in the ERP system. On a daily basis, you will prepare vouchers, reconcile bank and cash accounts, and ensure supplier payments are supported by complete procurement documentation. Your accuracy directly enables reliable management accounts, statutory filings, and smooth audits across the company’s business units.
Key Responsibilities
- Verify and prepare payment and revenue vouchers, then route them for approval and processing according to internal financial regulations.
- Record all financial transactions in the ERP system and maintain ledgers, cashbooks, vote books, and registers with up-to-date, well-organised supporting documents.
- Reconcile bank and cash accounts on a monthly basis; manage petty cash and imprest by tracking disbursements and maintaining accurate records.
- Support budgeting, cash-flow projections, and financial schedules, and prepare weekly or monthly reports on payables and expenses for management review.
- Assist the Finance Officer with management accounts and Board-level financial reports, ensuring figures reconcile to source records and operational data.
- Monitor revenue, expenditure, receivables, and payables across business units, flagging discrepancies or overdue items for timely follow-up.
- Contribute to statutory compliance by computing and remitting tax and other deductions accurately, preparing KRA returns, and supporting payroll verification with the Human Resources team.
- Support internal and external audits by responding to information requests, participating in quarterly and annual audit exercises, and maintaining the accounting registry, including document dispatch logs.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a recognised equivalent from an accredited university.
- At least two years of hands-on experience in accounting and finance, including voucher processing, reconciliations, and reporting.
- Solid working knowledge of ERP systems such as Odoo, SAP, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics, ERPNext, or similar platforms.
- Advanced Excel expertise, including pivot tables, lookups, and financial summarisation for reports and analysis.
- CPA-K certification or active membership with ICPAK (or another recognised professional accountancy body) is an added advantage.
- Familiarity with Kenyan tax and statutory obligations, including KRA filing requirements, is preferred.
