Assistant Accountant

Role Overview

This position manages the full billing cycle for healthcare services, ensuring every procedure and treatment is accurately invoiced and revenue is recorded without delay. Day-to-day work includes processing payments, reconciling patient accounts, maintaining financial ledgers, and supporting month-end reporting. The role is critical to keeping the organization’s revenue stream steady and compliant with accounting standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Generate and submit billing claims for medical services, verifying correct coding and patient details before transmission.
• Perform regular reconciliations of patient accounts, identifying and resolving discrepancies or unpaid balances.
• Update financial records and transaction logs within the hospital’s health management information system.
• Prepare supporting documents and schedules for financial reports, assisting with month-end closing tasks.
• Confirm patient insurance coverage and obtain pre-authorizations where required.
• Respond to patient and insurance company inquiries about charges, payment plans, and account status.
• Collaborate with clinical staff to collect correct service codes and ensure all billable items are captured.
• Monitor accounts receivable aging and escalate overdue accounts as needed.

Requirements & Qualifications

• CPA Part Two certification or an equivalent professional accounting qualification.
• At least two years of relevant working experience, preferably in medical billing or healthcare accounting.
• Valid Certificate of Good Conduct from the relevant authorities.
• Strong computer skills, particularly with Health Management Information Systems (HMIS).
• High attention to detail and accuracy in data entry, calculations, and record-keeping.
• Proven ability to work with hospital billing systems and understand medical coding conventions.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills for liaising with patients, insurers, and internal teams.
