Role Overview
You will act as the research engine for the investment division, producing both financial and contextual analysis that shapes decisions on new deals, existing holdings, and counterparty risk. Day to day involves building and refreshing valuation models, monitoring markets and issuer health, and translating raw data into clear memos and presentations for portfolio managers, investment committees, and client-facing stakeholders. Your output matters because it directly supports asset allocation choices and helps the business win and retain relationships through credible, evidence-based insights.
Key Responsibilities
- Evaluate prospective investment opportunities and conduct ongoing research on current issuers and counterparties, blending quantitative performance metrics with qualitative factors such as governance, sustainability, and market positioning.
- Develop and maintain financial models, including discounted cash flows, scenario analysis, and risk-adjusted return calculations, to support buy/sell/hold recommendations.
- Prepare investment memos, committee papers, and client-ready summaries that distil complex analysis into straightforward, actionable narratives.
- Monitor macroeconomic trends, industry dynamics, and international market conditions, then flag implications for the portfolio in real time.
- Assist portfolio managers by stress-testing assumptions, refining asset allocation ideas, and validating data used in decision-making.
- Contribute to business development and client retention by producing research-led content, pitch decks, and tailored insights for prospective and existing accounts.
- Integrate AI tools and technology into the research workflow, using automation and pattern recognition to improve forecast quality and reduce manual processing time.
- Keep counterparty records current, documenting any changes in creditworthiness, performance, or institutional risk and escalating emerging issues.
Requirements & Qualifications
- A first degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business, or a closely related field.
- Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation, CIFA/ICIFA membership, or an equivalent recognised professional qualification in investment management or financial analysis.
- Five to seven years of professional experience in investment research, financial modelling, and securities dealing within institutional asset management, banking, or a similar environment.
- Demonstrated proficiency with AI-based tools and technologies applied to asset management, such as predictive analytics, machine learning platforms, or intelligent data extraction.
- A proven record of conducting rigorous financial and non-financial analysis that led to tangible investment decisions or portfolio improvements.
- Strong quantitative skills, including economic analysis, performance benchmarking, and knowledge of international markets.
- Familiarity with investment product development and the ability to support new fund or mandate initiatives with research and modelling.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with a track record of articulating investment views clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- A disciplined, practical approach to checking data accuracy, meeting deadlines, and responding constructively to feedback.
