Role Overview
This role is central to maintaining the financial health of the organisation by owning the full cycle of accounts payable and receivable. Day to day, you will process invoices, manage collections, and reconcile bank statements, ensuring every transaction is accurately recorded and compliant with Kenyan tax regulations. Your work directly supports timely financial reporting and strengthens internal controls, making you a trusted partner to the finance team and external auditors.
Key Responsibilities
- Process incoming invoices, issue payments, and manage vendor relationships to ensure timely settlement of accounts payable.
- Generate customer invoices, follow up on outstanding receivables, and reconcile discrepancies in debtor ledgers.
- Perform monthly bank reconciliations and match transactions against general ledger entries to identify and resolve variances.
- Prepare and file statutory returns including VAT, withholding tax, and corporate income tax in compliance with KRA deadlines.
- Assist in the preparation of month-end and year-end financial statements, including accruals, prepayments, and depreciation schedules.
- Maintain fixed asset registers and ensure proper documentation for all capital purchases and disposals.
- Support internal and external audit processes by providing requested schedules, reconciliations, and supporting evidence.
- Review and improve internal control procedures related to cash management, procurement, and expense approvals.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field from a recognised institution.
- Professional certification: CPA(K), ACCA, or equivalent qualification (fully qualified or at advanced stage).
- 3 to 5 years of hands-on accounting experience, with at least 2 years in a role handling both AP and AR functions.
- Strong working knowledge of tax compliance requirements under Kenyan law, including iTax filing and remittance.
- Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, financial formulas) for data analysis and reconciliation.
- Experience with an ERP accounting system (e.g., SAP, Sage, QuickBooks, or similar) is strongly preferred.
- Excellent attention to detail, with the ability to spot errors and inconsistencies in large datasets.
- Proven ability to work independently under tight month-end deadlines while maintaining accuracy.
