Job Description
Key responsibilities include:
- Prepare engineering studies, specifications, designs, drawings, and bills of quantities for power system projects.
- Supervise the construction, installation, testing, commissioning, and maintenance of low, medium, and high voltage power networks and associated equipment.
- Operate and maintain overhead, underground, indoor, and outdoor electrical distribution and transmission infrastructure.
- Design, implement, and manage renewable energy systems, including solar photovoltaic (PV) and energy storage solutions.
- Prepare technical tender documents, evaluate bids, and support procurement activities for power-related projects and services.
- Monitor power system performance and reliability, and implement measures to improve network safety, efficiency, and availability.
- Ensure compliance with applicable electrical standards, regulatory requirements, and health, safety, and environmental policies.
- Manage projects, contractors, and technical teams to ensure timely and cost-effective delivery of assigned works.
Requirements
- Minimum of eight (8) years of hands-on experience in the design, construction, testing, commissioning, operation, and maintenance of power utility infrastructure, including electricity generation, transmission, and distribution systems.
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or an equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.
- Registered Professional Engineer or Graduate Engineer with the Engineers Board of Kenya and a member of the Institution of Engineers of Kenya.
- Licensed Electrical Worker by the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority, preferably Class B or higher.
- Licensed Solar PV Technician by the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority, preferably Class T3 will be an added advantage.
- Demonstrated experience in the operation and maintenance of low, medium, and high voltage electrical systems and equipment.
- Proven experience in design, implementation, testing, commissioning, and operation of solar photovoltaic (PV) and other renewable energy systems.
- Experience in the preparation of technical tender documents, bid evaluations, and contract administration for engineering projects.
- Demonstrated experience in managing engineering projects, including planning, budgeting, scheduling, risk management, and stakeholder coordination.
- Proven ability to lead, supervise, mentor, and develop technical teams and contractors in a utility or engineering environment.
- Good understanding of applicable utility regulations, engineering standards, health and safety requirements, and environmental compliance obligations.
- Proficiency in power system studies and analysis, including load flow, short-circuit, protection coordination, and system modelling using software such as ETAP, DIgSILENT PowerFactory, CYME, or equivalent.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, PVsyst, and other engineering design, modelling, and simulation software.
