Nairobi Adventist Hospital (NAH) is a Seventh-day Adventist (SDA) church-established and owned Hospital. It is a tertiary (level 4) hospital located in Nyari west area in Westlands sub-county, Nairobi County, Kenya. According to the SDA ranks, the Hospital is within the Central Kenya Conference of SDA Church (CKC) within the East Kenya Union Conference(EKUC) of the East-Central Africa Division (ECD). The facility began as a dispensary opened by missionaries in the year 1940 to provide basic health care to the surrounding community who were suffering from a whole lot of tropical diseases. The dispensary was closed down in 1955 by the colonial government over accusations of providing care to the anti-colonial Mau Mau fighters. It was, however, re-opened in January 1988 and continued to function as a dispensary, serving the surrounding community.
Job Description
Job purpose
The Dialysis Nurse will be responsible for providing specialized nursing care to patients undergoing dialysis treatment. The role involves monitoring patients before, during, and after dialysis, ensuring safe and effective procedures, managing dialysis equipment, and educating patients on renal care and treatment plans.
Duties and responsibilities
- Assess patients before, during, and after dialysis treatment.
- Operate and monitor dialysis machines safely and effectively.
- Observe and manage complications during dialysis sessions.
- Administer prescribed medications and treatments.
- Educate patients on kidney care, diet, and treatment plans.
- Maintain infection control and properly document patient care
Qualifications
- Have a Diploma in Nursing or a Bachelor of Science Nursing from a Recognized Institution.
- Higher Diploma or Certificate in Nephrology/Renal Nursing.
- Be registered and gave a valid license from the Nursing Council of Kenya. (NCK)
- Have a Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Certification.
- Have a minimum of 2-3 years of nursing experience and at-least 1-2 years in a dialysis unit/critical care renal setting.
- Strong clinical assessment and emergency response skills.
- Competence in dialysis machine operation and renal care technology.
- Excellent communication, teamwork, compassion, and patient education abilities.
