Job Overview

Our client is looking for a technically sharp and highly experienced Refrigeration Technician to join their team along Thika Road. This is a role for a seasoned hands-on professional who has spent years in the field and can walk into any refrigeration or HVAC fault with the confidence, tools, and knowledge to diagnose and fix it right the first time. From planned preventive maintenance to emergency breakdowns and full system installations, you will be the go-to technical expert on the ground. If you hold a valid HVAC certification and have at least 5 years of solid field experience behind you, our client is ready to bring you on board.

Key Responsibilities

Installation of Refrigeration & HVAC Systems

• Plan and execute the full installation of refrigeration units, chillers, air conditioning systems, and all associated components across residential, commercial, and industrial settings
• Ensure correct sizing, placement, and secure mounting of all systems in strict accordance with technical specifications and manufacturer guidelines

Routine Inspection & Preventive Maintenance

• Conduct regular, thorough inspections of refrigeration and HVAC systems to detect early signs of wear, leaks, corrosion, or developing faults before they escalate
• Carry out all scheduled preventive maintenance tasks including filter cleaning, refrigerant level checks, lubrication of moving parts, and system control testing to maintain peak performance

Troubleshooting & Diagnostic Analysis

• Identify and analyze system malfunctions using specialized diagnostic tools and equipment with accuracy and speed
• Interpret error codes, sensor data, and system performance readings to pinpoint the precise root cause of any failure

Repairs & Component Replacement

• Replace or repair faulty components including compressors, motors, thermostats, fans, solenoids, expansion valves, and electrical wiring
• Perform soldering, brazing, and piping work as required to fix refrigerant leaks or reconnect damaged lines to full operational standard

System Testing & Calibration

• Test all systems thoroughly after repair or installation to verify performance, energy efficiency, and compliance with applicable regulatory standards
• Adjust and calibrate temperature, airflow, and pressure controls to precise operational requirements

Emergency Response & Breakdown Support

• Respond promptly to urgent service calls and system breakdowns to restore full functionality with minimal disruption to client operations
• Maintain readiness for on-call assignments including after-hours and weekend emergency response when required

Record Keeping & Reporting

• Maintain detailed, accurate service logs, maintenance reports, and repair documentation for compliance purposes and future reference
• Submit regular status updates to supervisors covering equipment condition, completed work, and any major issues encountered in the field

Compliance & Safety Assurance

• Adhere strictly to all local and national safety codes, environmental regulations, and workplace safety standards when handling refrigerants and electrical components
• Use appropriate personal protective equipment at all times and maintain safe work practices across every job site without exception

Customer & Stakeholder Communication

• Provide clear, professional updates and practical recommendations to clients, tenants, and facility managers on system condition, potential upgrades, and necessary repairs
• Educate end users on correct system operation and basic maintenance habits that extend equipment lifespan and reduce breakdown frequency

Inventory & Tool Management

• Track parts and tool usage proactively and request replenishments well in advance to avoid delays on critical jobs
• Maintain the cleanliness, full functionality, and security of all tools and diagnostic equipment at all times

Requirements & Qualifications

• Valid HVAC certification from a recognized and accredited institution is mandatory
• Minimum 5 years of hands-on field experience in refrigeration and HVAC systems across residential, commercial, or industrial environments
• Deep, applied knowledge of the refrigeration cycle, system components, and industry safety practices
• Proven ability to read and accurately interpret technical manuals, system blueprints, and wiring diagrams
• Sharp diagnostic and problem-solving skills with a high level of attention to detail in all technical work
• Physically fit and fully able to work in confined spaces, at heights, and in varying environmental conditions as the role demands
