Job Description
We are hiring a results-driven Debt Collection Officer to join our growing collections team. If you have experience in debt recovery, mobile money, or micro-lending and thrive in a fast-paced, target-driven environment, we want to hear from you.
Key Responsibilities
- Proactively contact customers with overdue accounts via phone calls, SMS, and field visits
- Negotiate repayment terms and secure commitments from defaulters professionally and empathetically
- Maintain accurate records of debtor information and recovery status in the system
- Follow up on payment arrangements to ensure compliance and reduce loan delinquency
- Educate customers on repayment terms and consequences of non-payment
- Escalate high-risk or complex cases to the Collections Supervisor for further action
- Consistently meet daily, weekly, and monthly debt recovery targets
- Adhere to ethical debt collection practices and comply with relevant regulations and company policies
- Submit regular reports on collection trends, challenges, and process improvement recommendations
Requirements & Qualifications
- Diploma in any field (Business, Finance, or related field is an advantage)
- Minimum 1 year of experience in debt collection, credit recovery, or a related role
- Prior experience in mobile money, microfinance, or micro-lending is strongly preferred
- Must own a smartphone and be proficient in mobile applications and basic digital tools
- Strong negotiation, persuasion, and conflict resolution skills
- Persistent, self-motivated, and able to work under pressure with minimal supervision
- High integrity, professionalism, and a customer-first attitude
