Job Description
OVERALL RESPONSIBILITY
The successful candidate will provide quality Cardiology services to both outpatients and inpatients. He / she will be expected to be an active member of the health care team in the hospital and to contribute to the continuing professional development programmes of the hospital.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide specialist evaluation, diagnosis, and management of patients with cardiovascular diseases in both inpatient and outpatient settings.
- Perform and interpret specialized cardiac investigations including ECGs, echocardiography, stress testing, and cardiac catheterization where credentialed.
- Manage acute cardiac emergencies and provide consultative support to critical care and medical teams.
- Develop and implement evidence-based treatment plans and protocols and ensure continuity of care through multidisciplinary collaboration.
- Collaborate with other specialists and departments to coordinate comprehensive, patient-centred care.
- Participate in clinical audits, quality improvement initiatives, and continuous professional development in line with local and international standards.
- Educate and counsel patients and their families on cardiovascular health, disease prevention, and lifestyle modification.
- Contribute to the training, education, and mentorship of medical officers and interns.
- Maintain accurate medical records and adhere to hospital policies, ethical standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Refer patients to cardiothoracic or other relevant surgical specialists for corrective interventions when indicated.
REQUIREMENTS AND EXPERIENCE
- Master of Medicine (MMed) in Internal Medicine from a recognized institution.
- Fellowship in Cardiology from a recognized institution.
- Minimum of two (2) years’ post-qualification experience working as a Cardiologist.
- Registered and licensed with the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council (KMPDC), with specialist recognition in Cardiology.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and public relations skills.
- Demonstrated commitment to ethical practice, patient safety, and continuous quality improvement.
- Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams.
